9 band DXCC achieved on each mode: SSB, CW, digital.

There's something to shoot for.

VUCC - ditto.

Worked all Counties.

10-10.

There are plenty more.

How else are they going to differentiate between different degrees of boot-licking?

Anyway, it would've been fun to sabotage the contest.

Normally, that's all their antics are good for. It's just that the thought of a persona non grata being at the top of the list brings a smile to my face. Only one person can be "first."

If we have more than one member who complete it on the same day, we will award each of them for being

9 band DXCC achieved on each mode: SSB, CW, digital. < snip >
4 bands (10 15 20 30) and 2 modes (CW SSB) confirmed & turned in to Newington, with 40 pending.
80 & 17 confirmed and not turned in yet. 12 & 160 pending.

Digital and confirming single modes per single band... that will keep me busy DX'ing for a long time. (Except 30 meters, I don't think you can work 100 entities on Phone on 30 yet... and yes, I know some countries permit it)

IMHO, the QRZ-100 equates to the eQSL DX 100. Wannabe awards. Who cares?

I care only slightly. AFAIK, you can't get a DXCC certificate from the ARRL if you're not a member, so I'll stick with eQSL.

One of the few times I disagree with you, Jim, but I think virtual QSL's are BS, and I don't mind paying the League to verify my paper qsl cards. Virtual QSL's are too easy to fake.

Besides that, being in Delaware, you should have no problem with getting the paper documentation.

So are paper cards. It only takes 2 people, one on each end, to fake a paper card as well. The system is only as honest as the people involved. eQSL can only be "faked" if both parties agree to it. LoTW can be done in a similar fashion. I've gotten a few eQSLs that are not valid and I simply reject them. "Problem" solved. :bfd:

Besides that, being in Delaware, you should have no problem with getting the paper documentation.

What makes you think I don't have the documentation already? ;)

WAS is a similar situation. I've got stacks of QSL cards (one for 160m, one for 75m, and one for 40m) from nearly all the lower 48, and I know I've worked AK and HI on both 75m and 40m multiple times.

Documentation isn't the issue; being able to get the ARRL certs without being a member is. I've never joined and I have no intention of ever doing so. :hand:

For us statesiders, yes that is true. And one thing I disagree with. If it were up to me, I'd let anyone apply for the award... but at a discount for League members (as an incentive to join, but that issue is a different subject)

But you know what? If you have the cards to show you've worked DXCC (any flavor) or WAS (ditto) or VUCC (ditto), that's the important thing. The wallpaper is nice, but not having it doesn't dim the accomplishment.

Even if I didn't have the cards, I wouldn't care. Like COR, I know what I've worked and what I haven't. Not having the wallpaper isn't going to make or break my day / week / year / life.

Say what? :wtf: What's messed up about HF?

Four minutes after CQWW phone ended, I had a short QSO with EA3JE on 75m phone using 100 watts. I even picked up a SWL card this morning at the post office from a guy in Germany who heard the QSO. The guy gave me a 5/8 report and stuffed $2 in the envelope for the return card.

You don't see that every day.

I agree. For instance, tonight I had less than 45 minutes of air time so I couldn't work very many QSOs but every one I did work was outside the USA: Venezuela, Asiatic Russia and far-off, exotic Canada. 40m was pretty lively.

Friggin' noobs....

Try this:

VR6TC (Pitcairn), 10/29/1974, 15 meters SSB, 4-400 homebrew kilowatt to a TH6
XV5AC (Saigon during the war), 7/7/1972, 20 meters CW, 100 watts and a vertical
JD1ACH (Ogasawara), 3/14/1972, 10 meters SSB; fhuck, I didn't even HAVE an antenna in 1972.

All on a Galaxy V toob rig and confirmed on paper.

Man, this sounds like a fun hobby. I really need to get back into it. ;)

Disqualified. If you didn't do it with wire and 100 watts, I'm not impressed. Running a KW and a TH6 is shooting fish in a barrel. :hand:

XV5AC (Saigon during the war), 7/7/1972, 20 meters CW, 100 watts and a vertical

Borderline. Ya get credit for the 100 watts, but points deducted for being 1500+ miles closer to the target than the East Coast and using CW as opposed to phone. ;)

Oh, you want the Euro stuff, eh? Can do, but not right now.

More recent...

Well, shit... Worked a couple of NZ'ers 2-3 years ago on 40 CW from a cabin in South Dakota on a longwire tuned with a Palstar. 35 watts using an IC-7000.

Yeah, need to get back into it.

In 1972-4, doing it with a Galaxy V was no big deal. Now if you did that TODAY with a Galaxy V, I'd be a little more impressed.

But using a kW and a TH6? Hah! Crutches! I've got several VR6's on 15 SSB, but all 100 W to the vertical. And a 3W, for that matter. AND, I'll see your Galaxy V & raise you a Hallicrafters HT-37 & Heath SB-301 combo.

C'mon, you can do better than THAT!

W3WN
11-12-2010, 10:55 PM
All kidding aside, I really do miss that HT-37, as big and heavy and hot as that sucker was. Best DX I ever had with it was on 10 SSB one afternoon... I had just wrapped up a QSO with a KP4 when the DX called me -- 5W1DM (and yes, I have the card!). At the time, the rig was putting out about 75 - 80 watts... and the antenna was about 60 - 70 feet of #26 copper enamel wire being fed with a Dentron Jr. Tuner.

(And I still have the spool of wire. The tuner got loaned out & never returned, but I did finally replace it with another one)

Now, THAT's impressive!
