Yeah I know, it's not really a ham radio thing. I may have left engineering but I still do voiceovers and record events and interviews. This will come in *really* handy because I'm not always home to record in the studio and this will let me record pretty much anywhere I want or need to. I tested it out and it is very nice and quiet.

Oh yes... And I very much enjoyed my complimentary Almond Roca.

Nice... I know, a little late, but did you happen to notice this in your travels search for this solution?

I've had my eye on that for quite some time :)

Bunch of these out there. There the Edirol R-09 (http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.php?ProductId=757)that I love!

BTW...bet you already know about it, in case not, Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/)is a great sound editor. And it's free!

Not to mention multi-platform: Windows, Mac and Linux. Very cool and slick app.

Ha! Funny you mention the H4. I was in Twin Village Music just a few minutes ago looking for a violin book K needs for school and they had one of those I was gawking at. Same price as Amazon has listed. I was also gawking at a new tuner that is tiny and clips right to the instrument. Cool stuff.

LOL, the music store had one of those too!

I own a copy of the original Adobe Audition (when it was still called Cool Edit) but I've been using Audacity for years. Cool Edit is easier to do multi-track editing on, but for straight-up recording and simple editing, audacity works great.

Did they have a display unit? Like I said, I've been eyeing getting one for a long time now.

Will audacity record an audio web stream under Win 7? I've used Cool Edit for years for that, but it doesn't work under Win 7.

You mean record from the output? I haven't been able to get it to work in Windows 7, no.

Yeah. Apparently it can't record from the virtual wave device (something MS changed in the XP -> Vista transition, IIRC). But it seems there are some programs out there that will do this...

Audacity used to do it but not anymore (I think you already noted that). I haven't tried that hard to get it to work again though.

Yeah- Just tried Audacity here a bit ago and it doesn't work. Cheesy Open Source crap.

Hm. Might have to head out there. Maybe they'll let me get a "hands on" the unit. From outside appearances, it looks "cheap", but reviews have said it's not.

Come out and visit us and stop at the shop while you're here.

Does anyone know of any real time audio processor apps that run under Linux preferable, or, if need be...Windoze ?. The whole idea I have is to use a PC to digitally process my low level AM audio chain digitally via a PC. This would include equalization, compression, asymmetrical peak limiting, delay, effects, etc. In other words instead of running a preamp, eq, and BL-40 modulimiter, the PC would handle all of that in real-time. It would probably involve running an audio enhanced low latency real-time kernel via a dedicated machine. The problem being is that I need to find suitable apps. The USB XLR input might be added icing on the cake provided there are no major latency issues.

Any ideas ? recomendations ?

Winamp has several plugins available that will allow you to do that. Use the Linein plugin and then something like Allesandro Tomassini's Orban Optimod processor plugin and you have a nice FM processor that behaves very much like a real Optimod. Not sure about AM, but you could do a search and see if there's something that would work for you. I haven't found anything of the sort for Linux, though Winamp does run on Linux using Wine.

Yea, but you won't have that cool looking rack with dedicated hardware units with (the BEST part), mucho KNOBS to twiddle!

Hello.

I'll have to try that.
Thought XP mode and Virtual PC only worked on Win 7 Ultimate.
