I got this unit by way of auction on eBay

http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n150/Paws264/Cellphone/mixer.jpg

The plan is to use it to run audio from my PSK interface, my Auto-ID'er and, my Microphone. The output will go to my radio (IC-706MKIIG) through a RJ-45 plug.

Has anyone had any experience with something like this?

Yes. Not that particular model.
Wind toroidal chokes on both ends of each cable used. This is a must as the audio units not originally intended for an RF environment are prone to pick up the RF and add it back to the audio and cause feedback.

eBay winner :snicker:

Yes, and you have just enough inputs to do it, without mods. Use one channel (left or right) and don't use the phono inputs. You may have some fun keeping RF out of things, but fire it up, that can be fixed later.

For not much more money, a new Behringer Xenyx 502 can be had, a mixer that I use and recommend.

But the Pyramid unit is more hamsexual, somehow.

It's the meters, yeah?

Oh YEAH, baaaby.

And let's not get into the "pin 1" problem with sound cards. Yet. :shifty:

Yeah, but more than a pair is too much for any guy to handle. Well, most men at least.

Yeah, but more than a pair is too much for any guy to handle, at one time. Well, most men at least.

Fixed it for you.

Not to boast or anything--that's not my style--but I can handle more than a pair of knobs at a time, and have.

I have a beringer unit at home but never hooked it up. Just not sure if I wanted to or not. I guess I bought it during a mania spell.

Now if I ever get a dx-100...that may just go into use!

Hello.

I have seen one of the old Collins boards in person.
A local AM station was upgrading to AM stereo so they decided to convert what they had.
The original pots were replaced with dual units and a solid state board was added under the chassis.
It sounded odd, as the audio quality from the solid state side was much better.
Great effort was made to keep phasing and levels the same but it sounded, well, odd.
It was this that got me interested in different modulation schemes such as AM and FM at the same time and Independent Sideband.
It is indeed possible to modulate with both ISB and FM within a 15 KHz channel with 60 dB of separation of the AM channels from 20Hz to 11kHz and 90+ dB from AM to FM separation at any frequency.
This is how 56k modems work. ;)
But with a channel limited to 30Hz to 300Hz.
A radio channel is limited to 15kHz and this is good for 0Hz to 40+kHz.
That means that the RF channel can carry far greater information than a standard telephone channel but simplex.
One 2 meter channel could carry both voice communications and limited video as well as position information.
All without any changes to any repeater.
But if the repeater were equipped to pass digital signals the information rate improves.
I use a vastly modded speaker-mic with a GPS module on top.
This is based in part from the research done in conjunction with several Japanese friends.
I was working on the connector a while back and tried both XLR and DIN as well as the mini versions.
Yes, some of this research was to lead to the VX-8R by Yaesu.
The current Japanese military radio does indeed transmit video.

Don't know if I could. It'd be one-handed & that's dificult.
