Started at Oolenoy Lake as I am checking the leaves periodically and wandered up 178 through the Jocassee Gorge and popped up in Rosman NC, Brevard NC and eventually the Pisgah National Forest where looking Glass Falls and Looking Glass (Mt) are located. Stopped at the Brevard College of Music and paid a visit to the white tree rats.

Since you have already seen other iterations(?) of the lake pans, I'll leave those out for now but offer these with more to come.

BTW, it should be noted that the falls are about 100 feet tall and the huge rock ledge to the right is about another 85'. The picture was hard to assemble but is equivalent to a medium format platform after all the frames were married.

What's the story on this one, Charles? It looks like a 3D separation but without the color.

Neat stuff...

What's the story on this one ...That is the top of the ridge/overhang that is on the top right in respect with the waterfall. I took it from a close in angle while standing on some rocks, in the water. It was really dramatic but on the screen it lacked so much imposing reach.

I will get to putting together with a Looking Glass Mountain pic. I will have to go back up soon before the leaves have gone past due.

Sort of like taking pictures of the Grand Canyon. You get home and look at the biggest goddamned thing you ever saw in your life reduced to a series of little color glossies and think: "Why did I bother?"

The Grand Canyon is definitely one of those "you had to be there" things.

Going back today. Been metering out the leaf changes over the weeks and days. Hope I didn't miss any good peaks but I've also been getting reports from others who have hit the 25 corridor north over the NC state line saying that the leaves are either brown or non existent. That section suffered more from the dry conditions we are experiencing. I've noticed pockets that were not hit as bad due to terrain or proximity to bodies of water or rivers.
The Gumdrop Effect, a name I came up with when I was 6 to describe the way the colors and trees looked all together from a distance, is not as profound in the last few years compared to 30 and 4o years ago. The literal look of a bag of yellow, orange and red gumdrops was almost surreal with some green ones in the foreground to round things out.

Nice shots, C. TU for posting them. Interesting bridge; history behind the ancient structure on which it now rides would be welcome.

Leaves here are only now starting to change color. Very few are coming down as yet -- mixed blessing, of course, but I suppose it's better to deal with the buggers when it is cool.

history behind the ancient structure on which it now rides would be welcome.

The original pylons where built by Dutch settlers in the 1600's but the rock facade you see today was last updated around 1870.
