P.S.
My antenna will be tuned for 144.
I saw that listing. Enjoy!
I had picked up the older Kenwood mobile multi-mode 2 meter rig, but it got sold off when we lost the previous QTH. But one day!

Without enhancements, I would say that contacts out to 100-300 miles is typical, depending on height of antenna. With enhancements like tropo and Es, it could well be 1500 miles+.
I can only offer the following anecdotal experiences. These may not be typical where you live.
From 100 feet ASL, with an 8-element beam, and 100 watts: Claymont, DE to Kansas City, MO. That's about 1,000 miles.
From 400 feet ASL, with a 13-element beam and 50 watts: Wilmington, DE to Huron, SD. That's about 1,200 miles.
Both of those cases were due to enhancements; either tropo, Es, or a combination.
YMMV

ASL (Above sea level), or AGL (Above ground level)?
I only ask for clarification, because I can foresee you having a 400 ft tower :)

Running just 50 watts SSB on 2 meter with the FT 847 and Flexa 11 element beam at 55 feet above ground Sporadic E Europe, 1100 km's Italy from here the Netherlands, France, Germany, UK, Poland, Finland, Ukraine ( 1560 km) Sweden, Spain, Ireland, Portugal, And Switzerland, just this year.
The beam has 12.8 dBd, coax loss is 0.7 dB ( Ecoflex 15 extreme low loss 5/8 ")
Good condx will go from 800 - 1900 KM or further here, daily reach with a station with decent antenna is 400 Km's ( Ruhr area)
N Connectors throughout the station on 70/2 , for 70 there is a 23 element Flexa yagi with 15.4 dBd.
Higher = better, no direct trees or buildings in your path is a must.
Adding a low noise pre amp near the antenna will enhance your weak signal reception.
Get a decent amp, 200 to 500 watt i use a homebrew transistor amp with 2 x the MRF 247 build 25 years back.( Class AB1)
It's addicting.... i know ;)
Tropo ducting is common on 2m SSB between SoCal and Hawaii during the late summer--2700 miles.

It's not a typo. ASL
AGL would have been no more than 25 feet in either case.

Wow! I've got some faith for my setup now :) Seriously, I figured you had a 400ft tower though :)

Also, keep in mind that those 2 contacts were not typical for this location. Most of the stuff I have worked on 2m SSB has been from the Carolinas to Maine.
It's Delaware, not Montana.
Being in DE or MT gives you an extra 40 dB.

Oh, stop exaggerating...... it's only 20dB. :neener:
