This coming weekend is the annual running (54th I believe) of the Pennsylvania QSO Party.

It runs in two parts: Saturday Noon - Sunday 1 AM, Sunday 9 AM - 6 PM Eastern.

Rules available at the Pa QSO home page, http://www.nittany-arc.net/paqso.html

My team and I will be defending our 1st Place Multi-Single entry for Allegheny County. I hope. If my antennas hold out (long story). Contacts with anyone and everyone greatly appreciated!

Just downloaded the latest version of N3FJP's terrific PA QSO software. If I can get my 'tenna in place, I shall take up the challenge.

I will be on as usual.

Not much chance of "winning" anything here with the
CARPETBAGGER coming back again this year.

We'll more than likely be over in PA on Sunday - riding motorsickles. Might put in a quest appearance at the mic. 'DSG is highly allergic to CW transmission implements so don't look for her to help out with that end of things.

I completely understand how she feels. :hand:

Sounds good. I just hope I can figure out what threw my Inverted L out of whack, I suddenly can't load it up on 160 at all, or well on 80.

Not a problem. You might say that the Omni VI+ can swing both ways... but no RTTY or PSK this year, just SSB & CW!

It can be arranged!

20 certainly, 15 depends on propagation.

Where you at?

I have been working 75 and 40, but the noise and interference is awful today. No sense in running the amp when you can't hear worth a damn.

Band conditions are sucking pretty hard on the Left Coast, too--noisy and poor propagation. I switched by to PSK because I can turn down the volume and not have to listen to the static.

Made a QSO with a PA QSO Party participant on 20m at 20:59 UCT, Albi. Maybe you should try twenty?

We've had a pipeline to W3 from Texas all day.

Too close for twenty to work PA generally. I have been working 40 and 75. Forty is now filling up with AM BC stations that I had thought (hoped?) had moved out of there. Guess I must have been misinformed -- or they have been misinformed.

Seventy-five has been OK this evening so far. I am taking a break as I type this. Made myself a BLT on a flat bread.

As anyone might guess, I am not a "serious" contester. I am working "hunt-n-pounce," which is inefficient, at best. I should squat, fire up the amp, and play the CQ game. So far, I have only made 63 contacts in 41 counties.

I worked Albie! And Bill KB3LIX, but that one's a gimme (we work each other every year)

That's two down. Now as for the rest of you...

I'll be on 80/75 for the bulk of the evening, with a few forays to 160. But I'll be keeping an eye on the cluster; sometime after midnight, Hawaiian stations in the Oceanic contest should start popping up on 40, and it's an easy way to pick up another multiplier...

I'm down to needing a dozen counties for a sweep. I've heard most of the counties on, but some were only via mobiles. I'm not optimistic, I think I'll come close, but fall 1 or 2 short. We'll see.

(I'll also put the shack computer on the Island at some point)

It was fun to catch you, Ron. Good signal here into EC. As this is written, I am still under 100 contacts, though I do have about 47 or 48 counties (and the bonus station on 75 and 40) under the belt. I kept hearing counties I need jump in, get their contact, and fly away. Felt like a one-legged man at an ass kicking.

Slow today.

I couldn't even scare up any activity on 15 or 20m CW.
I was looking for some multipliers, but I suppose the world is sleeping.

By contrast, when I got bored with PAQP, I switched to the Makrothen
RTTY contest, snagged 610,000+ points.
15 had decent activity in the digital portion.

I sure could use a NAP !!!

I gave up on the QSO Party at 1600z after logging about 100 contacts. I recorded mults for 48 counties, but kept hearing the same fixed stations over and over, and so went to play elsewhere. I am not really a contester; I am a fisherman, and I entered the contest just for the halibut.

Seventeen meters was hot for a while into Europe. So, too, was twenty. Worked a bunch of stations, including Bulgaria -- a county I have seldom hit in the past. Lots of Russkies, Poles, Czechs, Germans and Ukrainians on the air. Also a few Brits, Spaniards and Eye-tyes. Of course, the obligatory Cubans with big signals. Too bad nobody wants to chat, though. Mostly, "wham, bam, thankee... and don't let that tuning knob hit you on the ass as you clear."
