I kinda thought Fred looked 50 from the start.
Always enjoyed that show and felt the same way the author did about the Pebbles and Bam-Bam spin-off.
Did realize Johnny Quest went back that far though? It was still in first runs on the Saturday Morning blitz when I was a carpet critter. Liked that one too.
H.R. Puff N' Stuff was a much heavier influence though. ;)

Happy birthday Fred. I hope you get laid.
Happy birthday Fred. I hope you get laid.
He will--he's been banging Betty Rubble behind Barney's back all these years. Freddie's a real ladies man, you know.
Well, that explains a lot about Betty. Did Wilma know?

Fred Flintstone was a terrible role model and explains the likes of the teabaggers.

Betty Rubble is hotter than Wilma. :stirpot:
Betty Rubble is hotter than Wilma. :stirpot:
Of course she is. Why else would Fred be banging her? And Betty is fed up with that little runt of a husband of hers and wants a real he-man like Freddie-boy. This is all the subtext of The Flintstones that rarely gets mentioned anymore. The was a reason it was so popular at one time. Franz Kafka was a huge fan, you know.

I thought it was just a vehicle to push Winston cigarettes.

I thought it was just a vehicle to push Winston cigarettes.I remember watching those commercials, first when they originally ran, then in college as part of coursework in communications.
Anyone remember "show us your Lark"?
When I first looked at the thread title, I had to open it up to make sure you weren't talking about AA7BQ.

I barely remember seeing the 2 couples smoke. Fred was a very erotic character. The Flinstones was the first National tv program that showed the couple sleeping in a single bed. Charles is right about the program using the commercial sponsers products. Smoking Winstons was not the only ad, remember Pebbles HAD to drink Welches Grape Juice?
Both Hanna and Barbera denied the Honeymooners link to the Flinstones.
Yah, right.
I LOVED Jonny Quest. Only cartoon opening I can remember with trombones as the lead instrument.
It was either Hanna or Barbera, I don't remember which one, who wrote the theme music for their cartoons. Jonny Quest, Wally Gator, Flintstones etc, all cool stuff.
I LOVED Jonny Quest.
Likewise. Most cartoons which came after are teh suck, with the exception of Star Trek: The Animated Series. Ran for one season. I HIGHLY recommend it on DVD.
Anyone remember "show us your Lark"?
Anyone remember George Carlin's remarks concerning that ad campaign?

I really enjoyed watching Hanna Barbera cartoons as a kid. If I remember right, The Flintstones were the first prime-time cartoon and the show was billed as being an Adult Cartoon. I always got time to stay up later on Fridays to watch it. My favorite of the bunch was The Jetsons, basically the premise was The Flintstones in the future, but it had it's own identity. Most of the music in the earlier cartoons seemed to be based on big-band type scores. Later in the mid-60s they started switching to other types...

Looooved the Jetsons. The music was great, and I think that's where I learned to dig the electric piano.
