The Phillies have the league's best record and are assured of home-field advantage throughout the postseason

I always cheer for the N.L because my dictionary sez baseball is a game with 9 positions. For the first time in 15 years the Reds are going to be in the playoff (99% sure on this one. The champaign is on ice in the clubhouse. It is good to be a Cinncinnati sports fan this month.;)

I Agree With You Completely. The DH is a joke and I'll never take the A.L. seriously as long as they continue with the farce.

Baseball should be played on warm, sunny, summer afternoons. On grass outdoors. With a cold beer in one hand and a hot blonde or redhead in the other.

And with all due respect to the culinary offerings, there is only one thing that one should have at a true baseball game.

Heywood Floyd (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001702/): I'd love a hot dog.
Walter Curnow (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001475/): Astrodome. Good hot dogs there.
Heywood Floyd (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001702/): Astrodome? You can't grow a good hot dog indoors. Yankee Stadium. September. The hot dogs have been boiling since opening day in April. Now that's a hot dog.
Walter Curnow (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001475/): The yellow mustard or the darker kind?
Heywood Floyd (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001702/): The darker kind.
Walter Curnow (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001475/): Very important.

Too bad we will never see any of this during a World Series game ever again.

In other words the game should be played the way the Great Bambino intended.

I would comment on that but my brunette XYL might happen to see it.

I should know better than to give in to redheads. Ironically, the one who burned me in college came from Philadelphia... her family, allegedly, owned one of the two Bookbinders restaurants.

Magic number as of this afternoon was 1 for the Cincinnati Reds. Their game against the Astros started (due to the time zones) 1 hour before the Cardinals/Pirates game. The announcers stated before the game that word was that if the Reds lose tonight, they were going to ask their fans to stay in their seats, and put the Cardinals/Pirates game on their Jumbotron.

Imagine, if you will... a Cincinnati stadium full (more or less) of Reds fans chanting "Let's Go Bucs." Where's Rod Serling when you really need him?

The last time I was at the park, I saw a lady put KETCHUP on a perfectly dressed dog with mustard, and kraut. I wanted to slap her, but I am civil.

It's an NYC area thing. Sorry, I hear the same thing, but I grew up eating ketchup on hot dogs. It's an acquired taste.

You used to be able to get onions cooked in a red sauce (not ketchup but definitely tomato based) that, when done right, are fantastic on a hot dog. A guy I used to work with at Home Depot makes it just right, but the last time I ran into him, he told me he doesn't make it any more, too much work for the poor response he gets from the Pittsburgh natives. Dang.

But there are worse things than putting ketchup on a hot dog. We won't discuss the barbarians who put mustard on a hot soft pretzel, after all.

It was a moot point. The Pirates were leading the whole game, but the Reds won outright (good for them!) so it never happened. Might have been fun... I think once the Cardinals heard that the Reds had clinched, they packed it in. That explains the high final score, but I think the Bucs would have won anyway.
