I got waylaid by a self-absorbed local ham who wanted to talk about boring stuff. Life is like that some times.

I listened in but my software only picked out bits and pieces.

I need to go digital.

Rather, I need to find some software which supports the newer protocols and connect up my rightmost '940 to the adjacent computer setup.

What's everyone using these days?

Ham Radio Deluxe and MultiPSK, both free/donorware.

N4PY's paid subscription software... SO2R with the Pegasus and the TS-850.

Any good Linux choices? And I take it that the suites you mention use a soundcard for codec purposes, right?

I don't don't use Linux for radio stuff, and I have too much other Winders software. That may change.

A good soundcard. Some of the cheap crap MUST accept interference and MUST cause interference. Yaanowhatahmeen. :snicker:

I use a SoundBlaster Live USB sound "card" with a home made isolation transformer. Works well. Though mobile PSK31 isn't very practical. :)

I mostly use Ham Radio Deluxe and Digital Master 780. The best thing about DM780 is that it integrates nicely with HRD. I also use Flidgi and MultiPSK sometimes, the latter mostly when I'm playing with ALE400, which is an interesting mode that I wish more people would try out.

Doesn't help there is no Linux client capable of using ALE400 :(

Yeah, I know. I'm a Mac/Linux guy and kind of had to hold my nose and put together an XP machine for the shack just because there's too much ham radio related software that only runs on Windows.

See my post above.

If someone would come up with some real Icom radio control software along the lines of HRD that ran on a Mac, I'd dump the PeeCee in a minute. Right now, none exists. There are some half-assed attempts but no one has carried it through. I'd do it myself but I'd have to learn Objective C first, which means I'd get to writing the software sometime around 2035 or so.

Okay, apparently there's an RTTY contest on 40m so I've moved to 30m: 10.140 MHz.

Okay, the heck with the digital modes, I'm gonna try a little old-fashioned phone work. Currently monitoring 7.220 MHz.
