How the hell does one search a directory tree for a file?
Yeah, there's a search box, but it doesn't appear to work. All I ever get is "No items match your search." Do I have to turn the dreaded search indexing on or something?
Thanks in advance for any wise-cracks, snarky comments and solutions. :snicker:

start button, search box type CMD and enter
go to directory and hammer dir *.* /s and maybe /n
you know what to do with the *.*
seriously, usually have a command box open

Well, maybe on Linux.
C:\Users\rton>rm ?
'rm' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

I like the command line, dammit! And I used to write a lot of scripts and crap for NT.

I'm lazy. Some of these paths take a long time to type in, and spelling counts. I used to use edlin, but that don't cut it today. :neener:

Linux or Unix, yes, and it's a good thing you weren't running it. That command would have wiped the entire root directory of your hard drive.

That's why I didn't panic... and ignored the Penguin Troll. :neener:
But you should be able to type a partial file name in that same box you typed "CMD" in, and it will be found.
Seriously, try it. It's just that simple. :snicker:

I only have Winder 7 on my laptop. It's in my car, and I'm too lazy to go get it.
Gimme a bit, finishing corn on the cob, and homemade red dill potato salad.
No matter where it is, its always in the last place you look!

Add the directory (or plural) to a library, and it should be searchable, and right from that "help/command" line when you hit the START button.
Or make a new library, then add the directories. If it's a network link, synch it for offline access, then do it.
I tried it at work today. It's the libraries, man. :werd:

I've been using a program called Total Commander for doing stuff like that for a long long time. It's nice being able to see all the files in a directory or searching a directory or hard drive for the files you want. It's has a lot of neat features and macros for file mgmnt, coyping files, and all sorts of stuff. I'm sure there are many programs out there like it. I just got used to this one . If I had to go back to the cmd line, I'd be skewered. Besides, I basically lazy.

City Market Deli in Idaho Springs, CO. It's an "in house" home made. :dunno:
Their soups are great too. The old hippies in that town can cook. ;)

Idaho Springs, Colorado? Good thing they can cook 'cause their geography sucks.

Yea, but I don't ski at Winter Park much, it's been a while. ;)
When I was working with the pine beetle spray outfit, we'd stop there sometimes.
