Fine business OM!
That's a tough one from the East Coast.
I keep telling people I don't need a beam, but some can't seem to grasp that proper deployment of simple wire antennas can do quite well. My biggest problem is not being able to "turn" the wire.
The Asian / Pacific region is a challenge not only because of the path, but I have to fight through the West Coast to get there. Of course, they have the same problem with Europe, so I guess it all balances out.

Shouldn't you be wearing your patented Stu-Pon-a-Tron helmet? :snicker:

I was going to say...
I work Asia and the Pacific islands regularly from here on the Left Coast but I can count the number of my European QSOs on one hand. With a measly 100 watts, I just can't get by you city-slicker Easterners and your kilowatt stations.

Every time you use an amplifier to work DX, you make the Baby Ferf cry. :naughty:

It's not a KW station most of the time. I will do most of my QSOs with 100 watts. Actual use of the amp is maybe 15% of the time. Keep in mind that the winner of the DE QSO Party for 2010 (http://www.fsarc.org/qsoparty/2010_results.htm) did it with 100 watts. Who was that masked man? ;)
AK and HI are do-able from the East Coast with 100 watts. So are ZLs and VKs, depending on the band, but when West Malaysia is only an S-3 to S-4, why waste your voice yelling at 100 watts? Not to mention, that kind of DX always produces a pile-up.
I've got a lot of "holes" to fill up in the Indonesian part of the world. I'm not going to waste any time using everything I have to work that path.
