She needs to move. LOL! Didn't she find Jesus when she was in jail?
Seriously, she needs to live elsewhere. I don't want the American media to follow yet another dumb rich bitch around the courts and legal system.
I hear South America is nice. Just ask the Bush twins.

She may be a jerk but what she was arrested for is equally stupid. I don't see the importance of arresting someone because they have a "controlled substance" in their possession. Isn't it time we stop living in the dark ages already ?

Why do we place just a premium on how people choose to live their lives? I know a 6'0" man who weighs 388lbs.. we dined together a few nights ago and instead of ordering a salad, he ordered a 16oz porterhouse steak. Why not arrest him? Frankly, his death will likely be much slower and clog the health care system much more than a junkie who ODs..

The line is arbitrary.

Now excuse me while I have a double shot of Grey Goose, going to send the cops because I'm killing my liver? I promise I won't beg any of you for a transplant.

Finance your own habit? Got no issue with that.

The problem with the above comes when the junkie tries to steal someone's hard-earned possessions in order to fuel said habit.

Worse still, when they turn "home invader" and kill those whom they're stealing from.

I have absolutely zero sympathy and zero tolerance for this type of scum, regardless of their 'story' or their 'situation'.

There aren't too many people doing B&E's these days all for the want of a nice filet.

Yea, in this case I don't fault Paris or her companion at all. First of all, they're pulled over because of a strong odor of bud. BFD!!!! So freaquin' what? Smoking a doobie? Get outta here. I'm not going to fault the LEO either. He's probably just doing his job. I fault the "system" that is so hysterical about pot smoking, a totally harmless and actually beneficial activity. THIS in the city that prides itself on drinking, gambling, and sex for bucks? This furthers my resolve to stay away from LV. The last two times I was there ('96 & 99) I was very, very depressed at how US people LOVE to throw their money away to "feel like they're cool."

I'm with you there about chemicals. Cocaine and pills (not to mention intravenous stuff) really messes people up. And some (Most? All?) hide from the user how bad they're being messed up. Not a good situation. OTOH, 4 years for .8 gm? That's just wrong, and very draconian. I'd much rather be on the highways with someone who's done .8gm of cocaine than a few drinks.

Las Vegas, or maybe Nevada in general has got to be going for the "most hypocritical" place ever.

Hello.

Weed?
Fact of the matter is that in the Reagan era, we, the United States, were very much involved in the drug trade.
http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB2/nsaebb2.htm
And this is the hard dope.
Kelly AFB was the primary freight handling point with Los Mochis Sinaloa MX being the between point.
The USA set up the drug kingpins in Mexico.
And all the while Nancy was saying 'Just say no'.

Oh yeah! Thats for sure. Mormon principles and money, casinos and republicans, gangsters and cops who shoot first and take vacations later. Even the trees are arranged in perfect symetry because they were put there. My wife and I are planning to be out of here after my son graduates in a few years. I have had enough of this place, but the money is still flowing and thats why people stay. But im sure we'll find ourselves in a nicely wooded area in a few years.

Doing what? Playing "Stardust" with the Ferrante and Teicher at the local VFW hall?

Nevada is bit whacked, but I still love the place. I did some contesting at Rye Patch Reservoir between Lovelock and Winnemucca a few years ago. Best conditions I've ever experienced.

Nevada was always a live and let live state. Back in the '60's there was no speed limit on the open road, just be safe for the conditions. The people were always really friendly, even in the outlying areas. Unfortunately, with the rise of hate radio and the tea bagger influence, the state is changing. The people aren't as bad as in Utah, but they're getting there.

She ought to go to jail just for being terminally arrogant and stupid. She's filthy rich, she could hire a driver. And what's with smoking pot in a car on the strip? It's copland down there and anyone with a brain can figure that out.

I'm not sure I agree with you on the controlled substance issue, John. We're facing that issue out here in November as there is a ballot proposition being floated to legalize marijuana. It's started some pretty lively debates in my own house. Sarah is for it and I'm against it. Neither one of us smoke. My thought process on the legalizing pot for sale is basic. If it's legal, you open up a whole generation of people trying the stuff that wouldn't have before because it was illegal. I know in my own case, I would have been all over it back when I was 19 if it was legal.

Easily obtained pot WILL lead to a mess of societal problems. DUI's WILL go up. Chemical dependency issues WILL rise in the population. No, I don't believe that pot is not addicting, it's like any other mind altering substance, it IS addicting and in some individuals can lead to long term dependency issues.

I'm ok with de-criminalizing, but I'm against full throttle legalization.

Hello.

Lost Wages has to uphold an Image.
This Image is very carefully manicured, much like a Disney theme park.
Paris Hilton is Not good for the LV Image, it is just that simple.
Think otherwise?
It was a LV metro narc that Handed her the purse, one that everyone admits has nothing inside to tie to Paris Hilton.
The dope drops from the purse directly into the hand of this narcotics officer.
Remember, it was the cop who picked up the purse and allowed Paris to extract a container, at what point the dope spilled out.

Yea, in this case I don't fault Paris or her companion at all. First of all, they're pulled over because of a strong odor of bud. BFD!!!! So freaquin' what? Smoking a doobie? Get outta here.

Well, you shouldn't be smoking weed and driving either. If a person wants to sit at home or in a place where they are not doing any harm then I have no problem with that. But a person should not be driving while using drugs just as they shouldn't be drinking and driving. Furthermore, smoking weed while driving is almost like putting a neon sign on your car inviting the cops to come and get you. Very foolish move.

I'm not going to fault the LEO either. He's probably just doing his job.

Agreed.

I agree here. While she should not be smoking weed and driving I do agree, "the system" really needs to get a grip and end this stupid drug prohibition. It is pretty crazy how we'll allow drinking, gambling, yet we get all bent out of shape is someone has a small amount of coke on their pocket, or if someone is smoking a doobis in their back yard. The paranoia, the hypocrisy and the whole stupid drug war has to end.

I'm with you there about chemicals. Cocaine and pills (not to mention intravenous stuff) really messes people up. And some (Most? All?) hide from the user how bad they're being messed up.

The but the part of it that messes people up is illegality. People get physicallly addicted to drugs like heroin. But it's illegal and very expensive so they end up devoting their entire lives to getting hold of the money to afford it and then getting the drug, dealing with the criminal element, etc... is where the "messed up" part comes from. Getting high or getting fixed becomes an incidental part of the whole process of getting it. You have had some rich drug addicts and some drug addicts who were around when the stuff was legal and, other than have to take a fix now and then they led relatively normal productive lives because despite their addictions, they didn't have to spend their lives hustling for money, copping dope, dealing with the criminal element, etc. This is not to say that addiction alone can't "mess up" someones life. But, unfortunately, by making addiction illegal they only made the situation much more messed up. I've often said, the way out society deals with drugs is often far more dangerous and detrimental than the drugs themselves.

Not a good situation. OTOH, 4 years for .8 gm? That's just wrong, and very draconian.

Exactly and further supports what I said above.

I'd much rather be on the highways with someone who's done .8gm of cocaine than a few drinks.

In many ways I agree. The most impaired people I've met were those who were using gool ol' booze.

Where in the news reports does it say she was smoking and driving? Could have been the passenger who was smoking. In this respect, the LEO showed proper restraint it seems. As far as I've read there's no dwi charge.

What I mean is that it's not a smart idea to be inside a car with people smoking weed, even if the driver isn't smoking,. Why ? because it's asking for trouble, all a cop needs to do is catch a whiff of the weed and he'll be after you. It's like inviting them saying "come get me".

I won't even walk with someone on the street if they are smoking weed. I remember one evening walking in Manhattan with a friend I knew from work and during our walk she lit up a reefer and started smoking. I told her straight out, "if you are going to smoke that thing then you'd better walk two blocks ahead of me or two blocks behind me and make like you don't know me".... Last thing I needed was for some cop to spot her walking with me and smoking and put us both under arrest. The idea of spending my weekend in Riker's doesn't set well with me.

In other words, if your going to use drugs, at least use common sense and play it smart. Most drug arrests happen because people are stupid and do stupid things.

Fact of the matter is this.
The police are doing a job that is measured in quality of arrests.
One big drug bust and you get an attaboy.
Enough and you get the grand prize, detective!
Everyone wants a good review on the job evaluation, be it a foreman/grade man with a sitework company or a cop.
But, an equipment operator is not going to screw you for the rest of your life, so you need to take precautions.
