Money is not a problem. You've got it and it's burning a hole in your pocket. Which car would you buy? And WHY?

For me that's a hard one. Too many great cars. I like vintage, but modern cars handle much better.

Vintage: 69 Cadillac Fleetwood and 70 Pontiac GTO Judge (68 Shelby GT 500 KR too) Always felt the Shelby was the ultimate Pony car. Judge could hold 6 and fly, maybe not as fast as George's Chevelle, but still very fast. The Fleetwood was the classic 60s Luxury Land Yacht.

Modern: Mazda i6, Corvette ZR-1 and Lamborghini Murcielago Lp640

Mazda because it has 4 doors and I had no trouble blowing the doors of 4 'vettes with it on I 4 one night.
The Corvette because I always liked them. America's Sports car, tame, then wild. The ZR-1 because it's Americas only Supercar.
The Lambo because it looks like the perfect mid engine super car.

Nice!
The Lambo loses almost 100 horses on American pump gas. I know this because I watch television.

Cars: So many choices. It could years to drive them all just once. I'd start with simple and fix up a 67 through 72 VW. Probably the 311 version on the 67/68 or 69 and the 313 version on the 72. Fix them up to modern specs, heating and AC, 4w disc brakes, fuel injection, etc, you get the picture. I wouldn't race one against a Vett but they would be snappy and the handling on the 313 would be like riding on a monorail. Considering that factory, these cars rated 50 to 70 HP, imagine the combination you'd get out of a modernized 150 to 190 HP unit. Might even be overkill.

Maybe a land yacht. A grocery hauler. A nice interstate touring car. I don't want to race the damn things. That's better done on a track.

Didn't know that about the Lambo, but it figures. I'll bet it loses more on Ethanol/Gas.

I think I mentioned that I had a friend who was part of a group of Army guys stationed in Germany that wedged a Corvette L88 engine and tranny into the middle of a VW Bug. They beefed up the suspension, painted the rear passenger window black and took turns driving it around. He said it would beat anything on the autobahn in the sixties. Even Porsches.

Here's that Caddy... I'll bet it doesn't even get 14MPG...

Yeah, I watch Top Gear on BBCA and that's where I get that bit of info on the Lambo and other vehicles that are not really meant for American roads. BBC, does that make me a snob? Well if it does then I'll take it and just say screw all y'all suckers! LOL (imagine that coming from Britney Spears OK, y'all?)

Yeah, seen the V8 conversions and that kind of ruins the balance of the lowly Beetle for my tastes.
Other cars would have to be a Buick Opel GT.
Early 70's Buick Rivera, the one with that weird rear window.
Corvair, GTO, 911, Camaro 68-70, 69 Stingray, most any convertible is nice on a pretty day.

already owned a 74 beetle with some mild engine work done. quick ,fun, and did as well off road as on.
already owned a 74 caddy sedan deville with the small engine for the year. it only had the 472 ci motor. owned it in the early 90's and had fun eating mustang gt's for breakfast.
unlimited money and any car i wanted? cant pick just one. too many good ones. ok maybe one of the factory 1968 426 hemi dodge darts.

Top Gear is great. I saw the Lambo there but must've missed when they got to the American part. Sometimes I watch Autoweek and once in awhile Car & Driver as well as Road & Track. Then there's the web which seems all but useless when it comes to getting meaningful performance specs...

I thought I was the only one who remembers the Opel. Nice cars. Almost got one in High School but I really had the hots for the Triumph Spitfire.

A Hemi in a Dodge Dart? MADNESS! But then again, who'd know if you removed the decals? Stealth before the word meant anything...

Now that, will help put out any fires in those burning pockets.

So many choices, so little time. Money no object? OK...

A Ferrari for fun. (Or Lamborghini - does it matter at this level?)

And a Rolls limo with chauffer at my beck and call.

AND a private rail car, complete with staff to carry me in luxury anywhere I want to go AND a garage car for the cars and another private car for the staff!

Money is no object?

I'd say private jet, but that's not a "car."

Probably a '65 GTO with tri-power and all the trimmings. Dark blue with white convertible top. And enough land with private roads on which I could enjoy the raw performance. (Judges weren't "real" GTO's. They'd been de-balled by GM brass by then. Besides, that logo is purely cartoonish. :stickpoke::stirpot:) As for anything Ford - yuck!!!!!!!! The GTO was the first, and always will be the best muscle car.

Hello.

I like the Mazda Miata, reliable sports car.
A 3/4 ton to 1 ton truck would be nice, but that is not quite a car.
Pretty much everything I could want I have.

A car is a car is a car.

That being said, a Saleen S7R (hand-fitted to me) would do just fine:

http://www.automotiveaddicts.com/magazine/images/saleen-s7-twin-turbo/SaleenS7TwinTurboTwinBeautyLeftFlatDoorsClosed01Fi xedSmall.jpg

I would far rather have a bike. MTT's Y2K Superbike shown below will blow the Saleen (and any other car, for that matter...including the Bugatti Veyron) into the weeds:

http://www.gizmodo.jp/img/superbike_02.jpg

The newest version has a verified top speed that is in excess of 280MPH.

both ford and chevy had a 302 small block

there are a ton of shared displacements.
the hemi dart had a tag in the trunk saying it was not DOT approved for use on the street.

Omigod! I'd forgotten all about those. The "poor man's Mercedes?" I've looked at them on the web, I've crawled around in one that was built to be a radio truck -- saw all the fixtures for hooking up radios -- but still have no idea exactly what they are? Are they really good? Or simply an "oddball" vehicle that has a cult following?

Wait! What the hell? Wheres George?? I thought this thread was aimed at him, THEN the rest of us.

I live in a town of some seriously bad ass, top end vehicles. People like to show off around here. Theres a lot of what i call "Penis trucks" too. A really big pickup, jacked up 3 feet higher than everyone else, with all sorts of tough guy accessories and stickers, not a speck of dirt on it....penis truck. But i like a good tough truck, i just dont see the need to really drive the point home to other drivers that its a tough truck, yes, we get it, you have a HUGE schlong, YOU da man! But i digress....

Money no object, eh? Hmmm, lets see. I have a nice XTerra that im very happy with for now. That UNIMOG is bad ass! I wanted a Hummer when they first came out in the civilian marketplace, but now its just as bad as spiking up your hair, wearing an Ed Hardy or Affliction shirt and constantly saying things like "aWWWWW YEAHHHHH, Baby!". And ever since the Chinese took over the Hummer production, its not selling as well because its nothing more than cheap Chinese crap wrapped in a Hummer looking package. Im not a sports car kind of guy, i just dont care that much. I like durability and reliability so i keep it simple...ill spend the money on radio gear. ;)

The 427 & 428 were based on FE series big blocks. The 429 was the new lighter 385 series big block (think 460),

The small block (Windsor series) came in 221 260 289 & 302 CI versions along with a raised deck 351 Windsor block.

Then there was The 302 boss(Cleveland style heads) & 351 Cleveland, then the 351/400modified (raised deck smog motor versions) the 351m used the 351 windsor crank with custom length rods & the 400 had it's own special large journal crank.......

Their biggest fault (unlike the chevy) was that they only used 4 bolts per cylinder (chevy used 5) which lead to head gasket failure under higher pressure which lead to the practice of "O-Ringing" the cylinders on the small block (especially on supercharged motors).

Amused with the Opel comments. I was an Opel Freak, even had a belt buckle.

But seriously... Mercedes Benz. I had an old 280SE that was wonderful, even worn out with quirks and problems.
A Benz AMG "sleeper" screamer. With a High Sierra antenna mounted on the trunk. Oh YES!

http://www.dealercarsearch.com/Media/1975/141905_17.jpg

I'm even considering a well cared for used E320 these days... $5000 for one of the best they ever made, except for annoying electrical glitches in the gizmos.

Those really expensive 4x4 camper conversion vans would totally rock, many are Ford E-350's with souped up motors.

2.5 litre Turbo diesel, 100 K miles with just one exhaust ( 10 years) set of tires, 1 refurbished dynamo.
Luxury seats put in there, lots of space, max speed 100 miles, while we have speed restrictions of 75 miles in Europe, except Germany on some stretches.
