Imported from Italy

I buy this by the 1.5 liter bottle, it's currently $8.19 but often goes on sale as low as $6.
It's a real good bang for the buck, rivaling many higher priced Chianti brands.
Goes perfect with any pasta with tomato sauce.
Yum...

This was good when I could get it. Now it is ... limited to discontinued. Yeah, I though it was discontinued and that is what I was often told. Last time I did manage to snag two 2003's in 2007 out of the GITFOOOS bin. Still the best Zin I've ever had and I've paid twice as much for what was supposed to be better. It just wasn't to my taste. It was an experience but not to my taste. Image sipping a Zinfandel and suddenly feeling like you were standing out in the vineyard. The first thing to hit the pallet is broad, green, dark grape leaves. There was a hint of earthy iron on the nose from the dirt it must have been grown in. So there I was, drinking this pricey wine that tasted like leaves and dirt.

yep, minerals, asphalt, earth, all good descriptors, but not the leaves, they're a bummer.

The guy I go fishing with in November is one of those wine "people" that can tell you everything about the wine you are drinking. He always brings several bottles of some very interesting wine.

In native tribal communities where kava kava grows, a drink is made by the women folk. The women chew on the root and spit the concoction into a bowl.
Later in the evening, the kava kava concoction is consumed by members of the tribe.
It is said to have almost hallucinogenic properties when consumed in this manner.

After trying Kava Kava several times I notice the following...

1) No psychedelic effects. I cannot therefore classify it as a blessed sacrament. Then again, I'm not sure how potent the Kava that I used was.
2) A slight numbing effect on the mouth. It seems as if it has a bit of a local anaesthetic effect.
3) A very subtle and transient calming/relaxing effect. almost hard to discern if it was natural or brought on by the kava.
4) Perhaps a very slight to mild sedative effect. But not anywhere near the degree of sedation I get from a common OTC diphenhydramine (Benadryl) tablet.

Again, I can't speak for the strength of the Kava Kava that I used. Perhaps a purer and more potent form would be more noticeable in effect.

I like dry Burgundies and whites like Fume Blanc.
Even a Zinfandel is usually to sweet, I like 'em dry.

There are some wines that are just "grotty". :snicker:

I like dry Burgundies and whites like Fume Blanc.
I had a white Burgundy once, driest wine I ever drank. Wish I had some good food to go with it instead of just cheese, salami, and crackers.
Imagine a culinary tour of France for a month....

New Zealand is one of the world’s top producers of Sauvignon Blanc. I did a couple $20 bottles with a friend a few years back, very nice.

I drank a whole bottle of Thunderbird when I was 14 (120 pounds). Never forget it as long as I live. I passed out under the boardwalk in Wildwood, NJ for a few hours. Took days to recover. I think I'm lucky I didn't die.

I've heard asphalt used as a descriptor for good Cabernet. I use it myself.

It was quite reminiscent of the fault line of an ass I once had the misfortune of being too close to. It lingered mid tongue for a moment before leaving its stench on the on the back of the throat and causing the esophagus to be awash in mildewed laundry.

Why not? There's a guy in Colorado who gets paid to be a professional pot smoker and taster and write about it.

Only problem being that he usually forgets to do the writing part.

And when was the last time you sucked on mildewed laundry to even know of that "flavor note"

Did anyone have the pleasure of tasting Seyssel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seyssel_AOC)when it was still imported? (Stopped sometime in the 70's). I had a bottle of that back in '74 and consider it one of the best whites I've ever tasted. Better, even than POUILLY-FUISSÉ. Very creamy and smooth and delicious. I'd post a link to a site that describes the wine and the region, but, alas, that's related to "alcohol and tobacco" and that's a bozo no-no hear.

Ever been near someone who arrived at work after leaving their laundry in the washer for too long after it was done on a humid day before putting it in the dryer?
Better yet, ever ask someone if they dried their clothes soon enough or did they leave them in the washer too long? LOL! It's priceless as the try to smell themselves all day and are very self conscious that they may be of a mildewed offending odor.
