I'm constantly plagued by Java update available icon in tray. When I click it it says update available from unknown. If I download it it says I already have it installed. It has given me a trojan before.
I can uncheck updater in Java but it comes back right away.
How can I kill it?

Universal answer: Plug the name into Google and the first page will answer the question.

Search on "jucheck":

Never heard of this one myself, but the key is avoidance and a good malware checker.

java is a language and a browser plugin. java is not usually a virus/worm vector, but it can be.

exit all your web browser windows and remove java (using the add/remove programs). you'll probably find several installations, each with a different version number--remove them all, one by one.

then ... reboot your system and, using your updated antivirus/malware scanner, scan everything.

if you find that you need java (you will, eventually) then go to this webpage (https://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/CDS-CDS_Developer-Site/en_US/-/USD/ViewProductDetail-Start?ProductRef=jre-6u21-oth-JPR@CDS-CDS_Developer) and download the java runtime engine ("JRE") and install it ... then open the java control panel, open the update tab and uncheck the box that does automated update checking.

I was able to chit can Adobe updater by just checking the I don't want any more updates box. I haven't done Java yet, I think it won't bother me for another month, then I'll get pissed enough at it to do something.

Who is the young maiden?

Just a general representative of innocence I would guess, too bad it has to be a 12 year old these days to (relatively) assure she still possesses purity.

I am very glad you started this thread. Just got a new laptop yesterday. I was going through the setup, connected to the wireless network and had not opened the browser. BAM. The jucheck thing comes up. You would figure that a brand new computer would not have this on it. I deleted JAVA and reinstalled it but couldn't find the System32 thingy in Windows 7. THANKS AGAIN. Problem seems to have disappeared.

She's actually a grave marker known as Bird Girl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bird_Girl) in a cemetery in Savannah, GA made famous when a photo of her was used on the cover of a novel, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midnight_in_the_Garden_of_Good_and_Evil) published about 15 years ago. Good read, too.
