View Full Version : MURS - who uses it?
This service falls under Part 95; thus, a thread in the "CB" section.
Any MURS users aboard?
I may be acquiring a bit of this gear in the near future, and will probably equip each of our cars (along with our radio room) with a MURS-certified mobile rig.
What are your experiences with the allocation - busy in your area, deadsville, ?

I use it from time to time. In my area, there's about 10 people who use it. Basically, just chatting it up while drunk on Friday Nights :)

Pretty dead around here. I've been thinking about getting a PX-777 from here: http://www.murs-radio.com/products/products.html
The price is right, it's FCC Certified, and I could use it on the ham bands as well.
The three tower builders around here use murs. Top man to bottom man so to speak. The tower is shut off for climbing. And they will monitor another machine in the area waiting for me to yell at them if theres lightning in the area..

I haven't monitored MURS in quite a number of years.

I have an old 10 channel scanner with a really hot front end. I should plug in the frequencies and check it out again.

I just put the whole lot into one of my R/S scanners and let 'er run. Thus far, I've heard nothing.
Not surprising. CB in this area is dead for the most part - as is the VHF/UHF amateur scene - but in other parts of the country it's booming.
At least we'll have clear airspace on which to talk.
