As would be the following. The 4-footers I've caught fight like a darned freight engine:

Like toothy critters? 9-year-old kid caught one of these which was close to 8 feet long at an area lake. First time fishing - ever:

Alligator gar are a hoot, I love them!
There is one little problem with them if your fishing from a fiberglass boat with a nice gel coat finish, they'll scratch the hell out of that nice finish when they start their thrashing around at boat side.
First one I ever caught in FL was about a 50-75 pounder and left me with a lasting memory of the encounter on my brand new boat.

We get those around here and they are considered a pest fish because not only do they outprey the bass, they prey ON the bass. Really hard on the ecosystem around these parts. SC puts a lot of taxpayer money into keeping the bass as the dominant game fish. We also assrape poachers. It's in the handbook.

I've caught a few of the local species of gar. They put up a heck of a fight. I like to roam the local streams and do a little trout fishing now and again. Bass, musky and northern are the fish of choice on the local rivers. Cats and walleye on the Mississippi. I'm about 5 miles from Lock and Dam 6. If I head in to Jackson Co to the flowages then its all about the bass and perch. There's some good nothern and muskie there as well. Lots of sunfish for the kid to catch there too.
It should'nt be to long now. The huge sturgeon will start there yearly migration up the rivers.
