A handy 2m Moxon which can be carted up hillsides with no problem. I've descended a friable hillside on my rear as well (not by choice) and used the pole to stop causing little damage to the antenna.

Some weeks later I had a QSO with an operator on the same hilltop, he managed to climb one side involving a small rock-face and I warned him about the alternative way down in the dark. Unfortunately he broke his ankle, it could well have been my fate. There would have been no-one about until the next day, if that!

Hmmmmmm.....I have a couple 6M Moxons around here that I've made. I might have to dig one out tomorrow and see if I can't replace the nut and bolt setup with bolt and wingnuts. That would be pretty compact for backpacking up a hill. I've been using just a wire dipole for 6M and a dual band efactor for 2M and 70CM.

Hmmm....

What have you got in the pack altogether?
I'm considering a windshield, it's not always possible to shelter from it on a featureless, flat hilltop.

There is a tent, sleeping bag, cookware, Icom 703, Acer Netbook, MRE's, etc. Check out the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hr0U50kjRSw and you'll get a little more of a look at what I had set up.
