Today has passed on a whim, shall tomorrow be the same? I think not. Monday once again. Weekends always pass at light speed but this weekend was unusually unique in that sense. What is faster than the speed of light? I dont even recall the existence of this weekend. For that matter last week or the week before. Just what does that mean? Am I going senile, doubtful. With each passing day the nights grow shorter. Quite the contrary to my teenage years. Tomorrow I will blink and the end will be nigh.

Hum..I better find something more entertaining next weekend. Then again, it is time to start a new round of paperwork, that should slow life down a bit. Whenever one has something to expect time is at a standstill but when they are floating along life tends to pass them by. Or at least that is how I feel.

Could it be that I have found the ever boring monotony of what most call everyday life? I have never been very sporadic when it comes to life plans until the last two years but I must say that redundancy is rather drab. It is not life itself that is bland, nor my life in specific but rather my acclimation to said life. Could it be that it is not acclimation at all but rather assimilation? Forced, no, but there nonetheless. No, that is not it. Then, the question is, what is it? I cant fathom a proper answer, only speculate.

Upon arriving everything was new and exciting but now it is usual. At the beginning my olfactory sense was rather triggering, particularly at the market but Ive grown so accustom to smells that there are not longer triggers. Sounds and sights were also triggers but now everything is black and white. Much like the days of being back home. Sight, sound, smell, touch, its all the same, common.

Due to this a fear of returning home has also manifested. To fear the bleak reality of normality and or repetition. At one time I feared change and now I welcome its beckoning call. Now I understand why my wife likes to travel so much. I wonder what this realization holds for my future. I suppose an extended stay in other portions of the EU may contribute to my sanity.

I enjoy my life, just not the daily repetition. Will have to work on that. :D
Just thinking out loud.

Havent really thought about it. Moving back to my hometown means I have a house and a pretty good job waiting so that is what I have been looking at for starters. After we are settled and comfortable other options can be explored.

After returning home, you'll have to plan some nice vacations every year. Not necessarily expensive and exotic vacations, just something to get away from the normal routines. Weekend getaways to a nearby town are good, also.

Octopus eggs!

Octopus reproduction is fairly uniform across species. When a female is ready to mate, she releases a chemical into the water that attracts males. They follow this chemical to the female, where they will often fight one another for the right to mate with the female. Sometimes the female will mate with more than one male. The same chemical that attracts the males stops the males from eating the female - cannibalism is common amongst octopodes.

Once it has been decided who will be mating, the male transfers packages of sperm called "spermatophores" to the female using his third right arm (which typically has no suckers). The female stores these, and then builds a den. She then seals the entrance. Once this is complete, she lays the eggs and fertilizes them as she goes using the spermatophore. A female octopus can lay tens of thousands of eggs, and they all hang from the roof of her den. Once laying is complete, she settles down andspends the next few months (up to six and a half, depending on the species) caring for the eggs. She ensures that bacteria and algae do not grow on them, and she blows water across them to ensure a constant oxygen supply.

The eggs will then hatch, and the mother removes the rocks sealing the entrance. The offspring swim to the surface, and the mother crawls out of her den and d
Interestingly, octopodes are known to be incredibly intelligent.

It goes to show that the either do not own leather shoes or boots or they simply dont care about upkeep. I have three shades of boot polish sitting on my desk. I have a pair of brown leather boots for use with jeans and everyday life. A black pair of leather boots for going out or for when riding. When covered with a pant leg they are semi dressy. Finally, I have a pair that I just bought that are boots but dress boots. IE...the lower half look 100% like dress shoes. I use these for work.

Clean, protect, polish.

I like my leather boots but they, at times, require a lot of upkeep. Particularly due to the fact I live in the city which means pavement scrapes and scuffs.

As for the funny looks; I remember getting funny looks when buying condoms at walmart. The lady behind the counter just had this look of disgust on her face. Forgive me but I do not want to sire a dozen children.

What can you do, people are silly.

I was reading the website of the Mexican equivalent to the ARRL. They are proposing a number of amateur radio regulations changes to the government. One of them is dropping the Morse code testing requirement. Currently, the Class I license requires 10 WPM, and the Class II requires 7 WPM. I wonder if this is going to incite a code-vs-no code feud?

Depending on which side the kidney stone is on, one nut or the other feels like it's getting crushed when the stone passes from the kidney, through the ureter until it reaches the bladder. Not to be confused with the urethra.

They don't work upside down, either.

I once worked for Homelite as a factory repair mechanic, mostly doing warranty work and I pulled apart a metric shit-ton of Walbro carburetors. The most frequent problem I ran into was user error. Here's a hint: always empty out the gas tank and run the engine until it's out of gas. Do it a couple of times until it absolutely won't start any more. You want to clear out all the gas/oil mix before it turns into a gelatin in carburetor and blocks all the tiny little passages. Do that every time before you put the thing away and you'll find that you'll have far fewer problems.

I do that every year, but it seems since they started putting ethanol in the gas, I can't go more than 2-3 years before the fuel line breaks down and the carbs turn to shit. Of course, these don't get casual use, either. With all the weeds and shit, from all the rain, it looks like the jungles of Ecuador around here, and it takes me a couple of weeks at 4 hours a day to get it all knocked down. I'd like to say fuck it, but every year, some fool starts a grass fire out here and if the weeds are just left alone, well, you know; you live with the same thing where you are.

NQ6U
04-03-2013, 12:41 AM
Yeah, although it's not as big a problem in my immediate neighborhood as it is in yours. As far as draining the gas goes, I do it every time I use my weed whacker even if I'm going to use it the next day. I've had it for five years now with no problems.

At times, every man and woman is faced with the question: "what is the purpose of life?" Death sure makes one think about the worth of life. For many this sways them to believe that life and or existence is meaningless in the end. For others they see the bigger picture and realize that everyday of their short existence is a blessing worth cherishing.

I sit here making a mental tally. Four deaths in the age range of under 21 years old in less than a year. Two of which were still in the infantile stage. Now yet another is rearing its head. A cousin likely to be lost at just under one year of age. Being born with bone and blood cancer and having tumors spread to the lungs and brain in such a short period of time. It seems that Chemo has been started and shown a slight bit of relief. But at such a young age in such a crucial point of development to overcome such a list of illnesses would be an act of divine intervention to say the least. Not being a religious man, my faith is rather slim but at times like these one can only wonder.

Its never too late, we have the rest of our lives to enjoy, no matter how long or short that may be. Grasping hope from a desperate situation seems to be, at least to me, a natural order of things. Realizing that with tragedy comes small blessings. In the realization that you can cherish those around you and yourself for as long as you are permitted to exist. Particularly when tragedy seems to strike in bursts.

When 52 cards in a row show bust the only way to go is up.

I wonder if it is natural to feel guilty when your life is going well, only to watch the lives of your loved ones slowly crumble around you and you are helpless to do anything more than offer a kind word where applicable.

Tomorrow is another day, so, here is to tomorrow.

Damn the postal rate. I ordered three books today and the shipping cost is nearly equal to the purchasing price. $110 for the books and $79 to ship them here.

I didnt pay for it but still. For my birthday my wife and MIL ordered me three ARRL publications. The new handbook, an OP manual, and an extra class manual. I have some free time to hit the books.

Also, my parents gifted me a three year membership to the ARRL.

It seems all of my gifts are radio related this year, lol.

However, postage is worse than the cost of gas.

ARRL tends to overcharge for postage and handling even for domestic shipping. I've found that it's less expensive to drive over to HRO and buy books from them, the price of fuel and CA sales tax not withstanding. Quicker, too—another gripe I have about the ARRL is that it takes them far too long to fulfill orders.

My parents got me the ARRL membership but the books came from amazon. They were going to use the uk site but could not find the books. Idk if it makes a difference. Ive never ueed amazon.

That aside, I hate my damn postman. Every time I order something he says I'm not home and leaves a slip in the box. Checked the mail today. Attempt made at 11:02AM. I was sitting here drinking a coffee. Lazy bastard didn't even ring the bell! I know I live a half mile up a building but all he has to do is ring, I'll come get the package. But NO, he has to be a jerk, lol.

Meh, oh well, I'll pick it up at the post office before work.

My grandparents had a trunk with that company's label in the underside of the lid. A Google search indicates the company dissolved in 1968 after 45 years of business in Norwich, Connecticut.

My brother may still have that old trunk. I'll ask him about it next time I talk to him.

Amazing how vividly I recollect the label. Brass, with 4 brass rivets holding in in place.

too many of these tasks to be done for one person to take care of, so, as citizens, we all agree to do one horrible thing

TMZ reports that a porn company that features older women called PureMature.com (http://www.tmz.com/2013/06/29/paula-deen-milf-porn-offer-pure-mature/) sent a letter to Deen offering her a six-figure deal to endorse the site.
"Full figured or thin, arthritic or diabetic -- you embody our perfect spokesperson," the company wrote to Deen, adding that she's a "MILF," and they are willing to offer her "6 figures for very little work," since there is no nudity required.
