I sometimes wonder if I am more a Libertarian than a Republican. I cringe when I hear dumb ass statements about abortion and women's rights from some on the Republican side of the political spectrum. Not all Republicans are extreme on the issues that are important to the nation, and I think those of us who are moderates tend to be ignored.

Just for the record, I'm not rich, have no secret Swiss bank accounts (though I did have a Dutch Postbank account once), I believe a woman's health should be an issue only between a doctor and the woman, I have a gay sister and many gay friends, and believe that government works best when it governs least.

Finally, I believe neither party is true to the principles on which they were originally founded. Those in power in both parties have contorted and prostituted themselves to special interests for the sake of garnering funds. In short, our political system is the best that money can buy.

If that makes me a cynical old bastard, guilty as charged.

That's a very cool patch. When my father was an assistant chief for the fire department here, the Secret Service would keep all of their vehicles overnight at the fire department headquarters. It was really cool, because they'll show the vehicles off. Usually they would give out some cool stuff too, I have a bunch of Secret Service challenge coins and I believe a regular Secret Service patch.

Despite their appearance of being hardasses, Secret Service agents are mostly really nice people just like you and me. I got to know quite a bit of Hillary's and Obama's agents during the 2008 campaign season when I was working with a photojournalist. Most of the agents that traveled with Obama back then are still assigned to him today.

Dang it. Sitting here at almost 3 a.m. because of allergies. It's been bad this week. Today I took my Allegra as usual before I started tailgating. Everything was fine until I started drinking. I didn't get drowsy or anything, but it seemed like the Allegra just stopped working once I started consuming. Either that, or it was a really bad pollen day. So I sneezed my way through tailgating and 3/4 of the game, sneezing so often that my mouth hurts, I start coughing, and when I sneeze, my whole upper body tingles and aches. I get home at 10:30, lay in bed hoping for all the gunk to drain, except it seemingly worsens, and I never fall asleep. I'm sitting here on my laptop just because I'm sick of laying in one position trying to fall asleep and I can't make any noises since my XYL is staying over and she has to work in the morning. And on top of all of that, I have the beer poops/farts. This sucks!

The alcohol could have reversed and intensified the allergens. Who knows. Pollen season ... shower when you get home and before bed and change clothes. If it's on you it's on your clothes. If you don't shower it gets in your sheets.

Could very well be. I came home and showered first thing, that usually helps, but not so much this time. At least I know that time is on my side. I'll probably try to go back to bed here soon.

One evening, while at our house in Puerto Vallarta, my wife was looking for me. Her friends said they had seen me downtown in the company of some women. It was true, but I didn't get into any trouble over it.

The three women were Catholic nuns who live at a local children's orphanage. They had called me up that evening to see if I would drive/accompany them to a free outdoor concert performance by a famous singer, named Juan Gabriel. There were tens of thousands of people crowded onto a closed street, alongside the bay, to hear the performer.

I have know the nuns for more than ten years and despite their efforts, I still remain a Protestant.

I was in the hospital emergency department last night -- broke my left foot. I roughly calculated that it was costing my insurance company about $25 per minute for me to be there and receive treatment. So I'm wondering why the electronic paper towel dispenser in my little bathroom there is dolling out paper at about 4 inches per activation. I had to keep waving my hands in front of the sensor, after the mandatory "no-response" period of about 5 seconds between dispensings. Fuck them sideways with a lunchbox.

They were visionaries that realized that vision is scary and subsequently drank the koolaid, taking their own lives. The did not want to stick around to see the end of the world so in turn, they ended their own world. Circular, no?

No worries, my friends. When the world as we know it comes to an end I will have a spot for you in my army of the undead.

So, this is the first real rain I have seen since I got here. There have been a few days where it rained sad, if that counts. As well as a few days of 5 mins of rain at most. However, this is an early spring like rain. The temp outside is cool, the rain is cold, its heavy but calm, and there is not storm to go with it. It is rather relaxing and is supposed to stick around for a few days, good for the water table. However, it is funny to watch people drive as I can tell they are not used to heavy rain.

Why, even the kitchen stove can
Blow up in your face.

And like a true mama's child
I was born, born to be mild
If I reach too high I just know I'm gonna DIE!
Two cups of coffee and a bran muffin. Should have read that while sitting on the throne in the water closet.

I had a parrot who was cursing up a storm....So i took him to a vet and he told me.."The next time the bird curses, put him in the freezer for 15 seconds" Next day the parrot swore, so I did what the vet said and put him in the freezer for 15 seconds. After the time was up I opened the door to release the parrot. He was very contrite. He said to me "I am sorry for the bad language. It will never happen again.........By the way, What did the chicken do?"

It comes as a consequence of living at the edge of a jungle. Funny thing is: when I go to a pet store and see the reptiles and amphibians they have on sale, I wonder why on earth I would ever "buy" one when there are already plenty living around the house. It would be like a corn farmer going to the grocery store to buy a few ears.

On another topic, last Monday morning, my Puerto Vallarta neighbor was attacked. I don't know him, but he was the city Police Chief. He had left the neighborhood and had driven about a mile down the road, when some cartel commandos lobbed three hand grenades at his vehicle and began firing at it with their AK-47's. Miraculously, the Police Chief escaped unharmed, but some bystanders were injured by one of the bullets and by the shrapnel.

From the other drivers, likely. Road rage seems to be big here. People say that Americans are always in a hurry. Now, the opposite seems to be true here unless you are talking about driving. People that are really in a hurry buy a motorcycle or a scooter and just use the sidewalk when the lights are red.

A break down of how the commute goes here. Pedestrians dont watch for cars or cycles, cars dont watch for cycles, and cycles dont watch for anyone or anything. Red lights are optional as is legal parking. Speed limits and one way streets, who needs them.

Can you tell Im a country boy that is used to a traffic jam being an upset Amish buggy? Heh.

By all accounts, the past month has been most difficult on Romney’s wife, Ann, who friends said believed up until the end that ascending to the White House was their destiny. They said she has been crying in private and trying to get back to riding her horses.

From the XYL's way-cool cousin Susan:

The Washington Post says that Mitt and Ann have been holed up at their place in La Jolla for the past three weeks. They interviewed a dozen Romney friends and close business associates, who say that Ann can't stop crying, because that black girl with the great clothes is still running around claiming to be the First Lady, and Mitt says practically nothing and just wants to ride his bike.

Things are so bad that they had Boston Market for Thanksgiving. Ann is said to have vetoed cooking a feast because son Josh's four kids were underfoot. Geez, Lady, what did you think was going to happen when your five Mormon sons grew up? I think this Boston Market business raises some important questions:

1. Why in hell was there not a personal chef on the premises, being paid double time because of the holiday?

2. Does Ann have access to a telephone? If so, what on God's green earth prevented her from calling on the services of one of the top five gay catering outfits which proudly serve the needs of rich, idle women in La Jolla? We know such women (Ann included, probably) do not eat but they always arrange for a lavish array of delectable dishes to impress their guests--even if said guests are just Josh, his blond Mormon wife and their intolerable Mormon rugrats.

3. What is it about conservative religious types, Mormons in particular, that seems to require them to display their lack of taste? Do they think they appear more devout and genuine if they choose bad food over good? Are they taking "Gimme That Old Time Religion" a little too seriously?

4. How does a woman wear Oscar de la Renta, keep Olympic caliber dressage horses and also serve BostonFuckingMarket in any one of her five or six palatial homes? Does she not see the disconnect?

I need answers. America deserves answers.

Just finished a post-Thanksgiving 2,000 mile drive from Atlanta back to Guadalajara; with a side trip to visit my brother for a day. Mother-in-law riding in back seat to keep us company.

Jeeebus. Now, that's living on the edge.

Damn, I know why people dont like to ship internationally. 30 lb xmas package arrived from the states today. The item was worth about 75$ but shipping cost 104$ and took 13 days to get here.

PS: And that is WITHOUT customs fees because it was sent as a gift to family.

IKR?

On a side note; work has been interesting this month. Last week I only worked 3 days and then had a 4 day weekend. This week will be the same. A few weeks ago I had a 4 day week and a three day weekend and two weeks from now will be the same.

Now, top that off with students that are on vacation and it works out to be classes of one or maybe two people for me. Makes for a boring day. My lessons are set for a 6 person group. Beings classes are interactive that means that a 1 hour lesson becomes a 35 minute lesson. Bleh.

A possitive note; I went across the street to get some coffee and I got a free snack, yay. Heh, the cafe across the street is good to us like that. Well, you figure between students and teachers they make a lot of money off of us. So, they treat us well.

Unrelated but taxation here is insane. 8-10% on food related items and 16-21% on everything else. IE: 21% tax on the mop I just bought....grrr.

You need to turn it upside down to trick it for LSB usage.

Won't the phase inversion bounce my transmitted signal back into the rig?

Only if it is unmodulated. If that is the case pull up on the PTT.

All of my LSB transmissions are always unmodulated. That way the novices won't detect my signal while they are using their USB speakers. But thanks. I will try pull up on the "Penis Tip Top" next time I get on and see if I can get out with it like that.

Now you are just getting silly. You've taken this too far Dave. It was fine where it was and should have been left alone right there, but Noooooo. You had to bring safety into the picture. Don't you think we would think about safety? Don't you think we would already know this? I would certainly hope so. Who do you think we are anyway? A bunch of know it alls who don't think about safety? Did you just wake up this morning and decide you were going to do what you could to piss off ole Jerry? How long did it TAKE YOU TO THINK THIS OUT? TELL ME DAMMIT! TELL ME!

Anyone remember when you had to signal a turn or a stop using your arm out the vehicle window? Or in a truck, you pulled a chain that raised a lighted wiz-bang that could be seen around the box? Obviously prior to AC. Ah, those were the days.

I do. When I was a kid, some of my father's old trucks had the semaphore turn signals. A couple of them still had wood-spoke wheels, too, although he didn't drive any of those.
