This is the UK band plan which follows general European practice. As elsewhere, once making a contact on a VHF/UHF calling frequency, FM or SSB, it's expected to QSY to leave the frequency open. You might care to check the internet for various contests which usually bring a rash of activity and also SOTA activity, especially at weekends.

Most activety here is on the repeaters, 2 meter output 145.600 to 145.7875 - 600 kc for input.
Same for 70 cm's, on 2 meter some traffic outside the repeaters anywhere between 144.5 to 145.6

70 cms has the LPD, low power devices between 433.075 - 434.750 including some use of people without license , and there are some repeaters with 7.6 Mhz shift near the borders with Germany.

Thanks folks.
Come April K7DLV and I, along with another couple who are also hams, will be wandering around the U K and 'the Continent' as far east as Budapest with a pair of HT's and were looking for a channel to use on simplex to stay in touch.

2 meter simplex calling frequency here is officially 145.500
Most repeaters use ctcss tones, but the frequencies as well tones can easily be found on the net.
For 70 cm, lots of simplex activity is around the official simplex 433.500 frequency, 12.5 Kc channel spacing is used here, when working a repeater use the narrow level modulation.

Band edges 144 - 146 and 430 - 440 MHz.
Hop ou have a splendid time here ;)

Stick with Amstel, Heineken, or Grolsch.
Grolsch Kanon beer has 11.6% alcohol, be aware of that ;)

Pretty much the same story everywhere about the Kanon.
