    Question Ameritron EBS-1

    Hello everyone,
Iam just curious if anyone has this in their amplifier? and does it work well-When the amp is in the operate posistion but no drive is the Bias cut off all together ? and well it operate cw QSK above 50WPM OK -without
damage to the cw waveforms on the start of each charector-Iam thinkng of getting this to save on the tubes heat
    dissispation during no xmit. Thanks-73/44s/DX

    Paul,

Looking at the manual, one sees that the amp will draw no plate current at all when fitted with the device...and when the exciter input falls below 100mW, even when keyed.

Drake did something similar with the "controlled carrier modulation" AM scheme in some of their tube rigs.

It will definitely reduce idling-current heat. The detection and switching times look fast enough for fairly fast full break-in CW operation.
