If anything, the "other site" should have their "spies" treat some of the posts like a "suggestion box" allowing them to discover their user's true feelings that they would never actually dare submit out of FEAR in order to make improvements.

The problem is that the majority of their staff - but not all, mind you - simply view such "suggestions" as indictments of their manhood.
Fred ought to give a couple of their Admins and moderators expanded roles then put the boot to the rest and redo the ranks. The guilty know who they are, as do the good people on staff. Most of whom are forbidden from coming here, by the way.

You're assuming they want any suggestions in the first place. All they really want is submissive compliance with the "Rules De Jour".... whatever they happen to be at that moment.
As I see it, what they want is zero criticism of Teh Zed. I wish them a lot of luck with that fantasy, AFA this place is concerned. As long as certain people (favorite sons, so to speak) are treated differently (and allowed to get away with insults, trolling, etc.) from the general population, we should "call them on the carpet" for it.
That's the difference here. You can criticize this place all you want. We don't really give a shit. Unlike over there where they say they don't care, but in practice they do. Otherwise, why the sanctions in the first place? It's double-talk at best and outright lying at worst.
We're not going to kick you out simply for voicing an opinion about how the place is run. There's not going to be a higher standard applied. We'll probably just laugh at you, but we're not going to kick you to the curb. That is, unless you demonstrate an exceptional aptiitude for being an asshat.

I'm a new guy here and all, and I don't want to come across as an ass, but I have been looking things over for a few days and it appears that there is a fair amount of activity here but DZ is where most of that activity occurs. I say keep it. I like it. I like the whole forum, and I see people here that I am familiar with. Some I've disagreed with, and some whom I consider my betters.
Keep DZ, You'd be doing a great disservice to the forum if you removed it. You don't want people to think you were getting soft and PC would you?
