View Full Version : has anyone converted .wav files to .mid files?
I need to convert a WAV file to a MID file. My cellphone uses mid files. I found a neat wav file that I'd like to use as a ringtone for a person that I prefer to ignore... I found several programs that claim to convert, but I have yet to make it work
Anyone have a way to make a working mid file?

Nothing that works very well how about just looking for the midi version of the tune or program the midi tune yourself.
Look up "Noteworthy Composer"
It is virtually impossible to reliably convert a .WAV to a .MID.
WAV files are simply a digital representation of the sound spectrum, from 20-20kHz (depends on the sampling rate).
MID files are instructions for the computer's synthesizer to play different notes.
They are two very incompatible formats.

Whats the tune maybe somebody has it as a midi already and it just needs to be simplified. I don't know are any of ring tone phone polyphonic? I never heard anything more then just the melody so I figure polyphonic is not likely but you never know...
actually, I was hoping to get "dumbass is calling" as a ringtone. I found the AOhelL "you've got mail" wav file, and have been tinkering with that.
I am starting to understand that what I wan to do is not possible.
