I need a remote reading temp gauge, nothing special, but I would like to read the pool temp from inside the house...

I tried a digital remote, the kind with a remote box, but it does not work once the remote is in the pool (NO!!! It is not getting wet you lid, I sealed it in a "seal-a-meal" bag!). The remote works when it is set on the pool deck, works whenever it is out of the water, but as soon as I seal it and throw it in the pool, I lose the link.

SOOOOOOOOOOO

I was thinking about a wired remote, a pair of diodes on the end of some #22ga speaker wire. Sink the diodes in a watertight container, run the wires to the patio room....

NOW, to just build up a circuit to read the difference in the diodes... and this is where I have failed. I cannot find a circuit to do this.

Suggestions??

How far is the pool from where you want the temperature? I have used one of those vehicle thermometers with the wired temp lead at my house with no problems. It's been outside for at least 3 years.

I am not sure how far of a wire run you can make with them though.

Now I don't know if it would work for water, but they make outdoor temp sensors with a plug in "wire" that you can extend another 25 feet or so. Could you mount the sensor somewhere "above water" and put the wire into the pool somewhere?

I have one where the transmitter is by my front door, but the wire runs out across the roof of my porch, and further to the outside to hang to get a 'better' reading.

Course, all of the ones I've seen lately only have the external transmitter without the ability to plug a wire in though.
