Anyone interested in doing a 60m sked anytime?
Sure! I've dabbled there a bit. I'll probably bow out for the next two nights, though. My poor, undersized A/C in the shack just can't cope with heat like we're having. I was sweating bullets out there last night! I think we'll get a break Thursday or Firday, if the storms aren't too bad.
We're spread out all over the place here on the Island, but it sure would be nice to find a spot that maximizes the geographical coverage. There's a bunch of guys here I would love to chat with on the air!
Keep me in mind for the 60 meter thing. I'm interested!
Okay cool.
I just had a really nice QSO with N3NAA on 60.
At your earliest convenience, Luke, let's setup a sked for 60.
And anyone else is welcome to join, provided your rig has 60m capability.

I would love to catch up with you guys on 60m, which, behind 17m, is my second favorite band. I am pulling a marathon shift today, came in at 7:00pm, have a rather long meeting to attend at 8:00am that should be over by noon and then it’ll be time to attempt the 27.5 miles home without killing myself or anyone else. If anyone is up for a little 60m fun Thursday morning (Wednesday night for us) at say 01:00 GMT (notice the distinct lack of ‘Z’ and insertion of GMT), I will be checking in here to see what’s up.
As a true 60m-ophile, I would like to avoid the two DX channels (4 & 5) and useless channel 3 if possible.

Funny...according to MY schedule, your ass is supposed to be in ECHOLINK *VAN-IRLP* about then....

I'll listen to channel 3 now. The likelihood of finding me on *VAN-IRLP* on Wednesday nights for a net will be about as likely as winning the lottery....... as in..... AIN'T HAPPENIN!
Hope you're continuing to do well Goob.

Well I know what you mean Goob. Unfortunately, going home to a mountain home is not an option as my home is in a bowl and a very deep one at that. It looks like if I went for legal limit height, I might end up 10 meters above surrounding terrain. Glad you're doing well buddy!
As far as getting on the net any more or being NCS...... just can't do it buddy. Entirely way too much ridiculous shyte has been going on over there to even be bothered with that site for quite some time to come, or so it would appear.
As is obvious to you I'm sure, John and Steve have left and don't even get on the other forum to amount to anything anymore either. I'm sure they are both busy lads but I do know, as I think you do to, that John has left from HS for an indeterminate, but as stated, very long hiatus.
With regard to the complete lack of control by your fellow mods there, it would appear that they have both been absent for quite a while and it's fallen in to a state of total anarchy. Also while checking out the string of online users there, I was more than surprised as well as very disappointed to see one very nasty piece of work there has been elevated to the status of moderator. I tried to find what specifically it was he was supposed to be moderator of, but he is assigned to no specific place. Whatever possessed or bros, the powers to be there to have done such a thing, I can't imagine, but, I am sure there was a very good reason for it. This particular douche bag in question has resorted to PM and email harassment of friends we share mutually and I am sorry, a keen technical mind where it relates to all things /\/\oto, a good moderator does not make. But anyway, there is a lot more to it than that. I am not leaving bitter, I am just leaving for a while. When pissing matches there just continue on and on and on and Shaun, Richard and Tim refuse to take their issues off of the forums, as does Brad and Jeff and carry them on via PM, email or phone, it trashes the whole site. It's not like it's a few isolated incidents or a quick spat with a kiss and make up like Marty and I do, it's just a never ending stream of different threads that are hijacked in to the poo. I just have no use for any of it any more.... I love all of you guys like brothers because Hamsexy was the original screw QRZ site. This place will never be able to make that claim, but is, IMHO, what Hamsexy used to be. Even when new douche bags show up here Bob, they USUALLY have the decency to carry on what can USUALLY be an intelligent argument (even if they forget to use spell check and grammar check) and when it's over, be men enough to just agree to disagree...... you know, like Hamsexy used to be.
Don't let me bring ya down Bob, remember, my status here on the Island is that of custodian..... I am in charge of maintaining shiny bright hallway floors and deck chair maintenance for the use of the intelligent members here. I am a 4-lander Bob, which make me like the leper of the group where ever I go. People here are kind enough to overlook my stupidity and ignorance and well...... usually ignore me in general. Now every once in a while you will see the mentally superior 2-landers here taunt me for doing stupid things, like establishing alternative ways for us to keep in touch during unfavorable solar activity or poor propagation. But hey, that's okay, it's all good and if I lived in 2-land, I'm sure I would be a complete prick too. I have always found if you have nothing to add STFU usually works well....... in 2-land it seems to mean, 'let's screw with mentally inferior 4-landers that we don't know'. As far as I'm concerned, those here who are that way can just FOAD and the quicker the better. I'm not really a crusty old guy Bob, people make me that way. No doubt you will see remarks relative to my last statements posted here for having the nerve to be an uppity 4-lander. It is pretty much standard practice here as it is everywhere else you go Bob...... 4-landers are the Irish of amateur radio, we are lower than the low and are treated accordingly with never the slightest inkling of moderation or administrative intervention. Watch it and enjoy, because it will happen again shortly if you haven't noticed it already.
Well, that's about it from this end Goob, ya know where and how to find me bro and you have always been a good friend who has helped me over a hump or two like when my youngest was having it so rough with her health issue. For what it's worth, until this week, she still continues to do extremely well. Minor set back this week, but is coming under control and she is resting well today.
Ryan, to answer your question, it is now right at 1:00pm..... sorry I got tired of checking back and found no one about to play with last night / this morning in the wee hours. I am on channel 4 now though...... signals are very weak, but the noise is quite low. I will most likely stay here or will be listening in when in or around the shack..... I am doing a bit of systems upgrades to the houses systems today while trying to beat the heat as it's 99 F already, and is supposed to hit 105 to 108 this afternoon. Anyway, be that as it may, I will be shifting off to channel 2 later this evening as I have gotten into it with some rather snobby shyte bags in England who do not care to hear US stations on channels 4 and 5 in the evening. I figured that rather than start a scene, I would just shift off or it would most definitely have resulted in fines and or forfeitures. You know what the English can be like so I won't bother to go any further. I do have to call a local 2m net tonight from about 8:30 to 9:15pm ET, but will be listening for activity on channel 2 again after that is finished.
Hi Tom,
I actually meant last night...
I can't get on air now as I am at the office. Sorry. :(

Man, we got the full display all night. Thunderstorms rolled through here one after another. DSL went out right after I posted here around 7:00, electricity was on and off all night ... what a mess!
At least we got some much needed rain!
Wow, Luke. I've never had that many internet outages, at least not as frequently as you do!
We had thunderstorms last night too. The static crashes were literally 60 over S9.
It's raining today too. I don't think I'll be able to play radio until tomorrow.

Verizon has big problems here in central VA. I've howled and complained, and will probably be forced to do what Tony (kr4uq) is doing, and that's switch back to cable. My DirecTv is also having problems, as my neighbor's tree has grown into the signal path to my dish. If it even smells like rain, and the leaves on his tree get wet, the TV goes out.
The DSL (Verizon) has experienced issues all summer with outages. Long, frequent outages. And they just raised the price (unless you commit to a yearly agreement, which I refuse to). Until they run fiber out here, it's back to cable for me.
That's too bad, as the service was excellent here before this summer. And I have the 3 MB/sec service too.
I see more storms ramping up, so I guess I'll disappear again shortly. :(

Diesel, the anti-fertilizer.
I don't like pouring chemicals on the ground, since we use ground water.
But I suppose people do it anyway...
Seriously Luke, that stinks. If the branch was overhanging in my yard, I'd be up there trimming it.

Bwaa! Tony suggested copper spikes. I mean somebody else did...
This tree is 20' inside his property line. Our neighborhood is around 35 years old, and is heavily wooded. There was but one spot on my property where the tech could get a signal from the bird. He told me 7 years ago when the dish was installed that this tree was eventually going to grow into the path.
The neighbor says I can pay a bonded professional to "top" the tree. This tree is probably a good 50'-60' tall, so I can't blame him for insisting on a bonded pro to do the job. I figure it's going to cheaper to just switch to cable.

Unfortunately, not. I do have a very old 3 meter dish (prized by some hams!) on a 10' mast in the front yard. I could take that down, and put the little dish there!
I only get in about an hour or so of TV a day, except for a few sporting events, so it's a low priority. The internet connection is higher on my list, as I get 99% of my news from various sources on the internet. It's that reading thing again ... I just love to read, and I spend at least an hour every morning browsing news, sports, and weather, and of course this site, and sipping coffee. Interesting, I visit qrz last, if at all, in the mornings. Guess it's hard to stomach so early!
I love having a wooded lot ... the trees provide some very nice shade. Of course, they are high maintenance, leaves in the fall, limbs falling during storms, etc. I wasn't so tickled with them a few years ago when the hurricane (borderline when it got here) came through, as I has 4 trees fall against the side of the house during the storm. I'll never forget the sound of the wind blowing through the trees at 70 mph ... it was like having a 737 parked outside with the brakes locked and the engines throttled up!
73 - Luke
I hear you about the trees. The trees here shade the house very nicely. So nicely that our A/C is rarely used. Last electric bill was about $80.
Right now it's about 70 degrees in the shack, A/C is not on.

I've got Verizon DSL too, and mine goes out anytime there is lightning activity within a few miles. I'm thinking of going to cable for my internet connection because of this even though it costs more. I've already got cable TV and rarely have problems with it.
