Yet 16% of HamIsland still uses IE6.

At work, it's IE7 or IE8.

At home (or any computer that I personally own) it's FireFox.

I.E. 6.0

I'll upgrade to a browser when "I" want to and the one "I" choose. :snicker:

That's fine. Certain websites just won't work, or will work in basic mode.

Latest is that both FireFox 3.5 and IE 8 are both having problems downloading from some sites. Might have to roll back FF if it isn't fixed soon.

Easynews. I don't DL much unless I know where it's coming from. They're advising using an older version of FF or a different DL manager.

Reget - their preferred DL manager - was working fine, then *boom!* it wasn't.

I think I'll go with the default settings and see if that works. I'm not all thrilled with Reget. The server you're connected to can set some parameters on how it works. Leechget is better, but that's not working either.
:P

I enjoy the irony of this. Since there were two browsers it has never been true that any given browser would properly handle all web sites, but to date, IE6 is actually the browser most likely to do so, with IE8 (because of compatibility mode) coming in second.

Firefox is usually far behind, and of late, has become the least stable browser.

And because of that, we now have Chrome and Safari. Neither of which is compatible with any of the add-ons most used. BTW, IE-8 isn't doing much better here.

Yeah. IE8 doesn't solve the add-on problem, and it seems to actually be buggier than 6 was.

Firefox is now having it's own problems...

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501605

Problem: Slow startup time.

It takes minutes for Firefox to load, others are having the same problem, and the Firefox team seems to be clueless on the causes/reasons, and now trying to chase people away..

From the mozilla site:
[highlight:1e8qrwmu]PLEASE, NO MORE "ME TOO" COMMENTS![/highlight:1e8qrwmu]

Can you see their frustration?

I set "Delete history on Firefox shutdown" option, and now on reboot, it is 30 seconds, down from minutes.

I have to wait minutes for the first Firefox start. Wasn't like that in Version 2. Right now I think the development team is sticking it's head in the sand - "I can't hear you", or blaming everything and everyone else for the long startup time.

Are they now afflicted with the Microsoft disease?

Heck FF 3.5 got up to a 1/2 gig here this morning. Had to shut it down and start over. It froze.

Been using Safarin and pasting all the downloads. It's a workaround, but it works. I think the net is slow here. Even Safari and Chrome are slow at times.

If T-W can't get their net and cable services straight pronto and for good, there's gonna be one more little piggie going to Verizon.

I'm OK with Firefox still, and use it the most. But you have to config: the crap out of it now to make it smooooth... but I also run a number of FF addins, so I expect tweakage. I like CoolIris.

So it reminds me of a Microsquish product, you gotta mess with it. At least it's free.

I use Chrome some, and Opera occasionally. When I am digging through a lot of text archives and wiki style pages, Opera is really fast as greased snot. That is a technical term.

Chrome is snazzy and simple., it screws up on page formatting more often.

I opened this, http://mashable.com/2009/07/16/ie6-must-die/ , today and couldn't close it. I had to manually reboot to get rid of the ^%*#@ thing.

I don't know anything about PCs but just the ad blocker on Firefox makes it my choice. On the Zed it's better than a wet dream.

I don;t have any of the problems with FF that some seem to be having. But that still doesn't change the fact that IE6 is still a FAR SUPERIOR browser. Even on Linux (which you should not be using) you are far better off running IE6 under Wine than running FF , Opera, or anything else.

My recommendation... stick with IE6... Stick with Microsoft. Leave the Linux and stuff to people like myself. I suffer with it so you don't have to.

Firefox 3 in my opinion has just been buggy as hell. and im not much of a fan of FF3

IE just plain sucks.

Opera , not what it used to be... but its still there.

Firefox 3.5.1 did crash on me, once. I deleted the temp/history files, as well as another directory, and had to reload the desktop manager - minor detail.

I am not down to 40 seconds on first startup of Firefox after computer startup. After initial, subsequent Firefox startups, whether from no other Firefox windows or with existing window, it loads less than 2 seconds.

Got the DL manager to work. Had to tweak on of the settings that worked on FF 3.X but not on FF 3.5.X, although it had been working. Fine now.

FF 3.5.1 only takes about 25 seconds here, but it helps that I have 4 GB of gaming memory and a Quad Core loafing around with 32 bit. Can't wait for Windows 7. I want to see 64 bit and if it's any faster than what I'm running now.

Some pages will not function properly with fire fox (not near as much these days though) so I keep the evil IE on my PC.

I don't have any issues with fire fox but I was more fond of 2.0. I did not have to tweak it to run the way I wanted it to. As for Opera, it sucks. I will not do the things that I want it to unless I download add-ons. I am far to lazy to do that.
