View Full Version : Anybody want a Chinese made Hummer?
And the fire sale of America continues.
General Motors Corp. has a tentative agreement to sell its Hummer brand to Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Co. of China, Jeff Flock of FOX Business Network has confirmed.

They can have them-they are the only ones who can afford a vehicle that gets low MPG right now anyway.
Thanks to us of course :)

A woman came here today to visit my neighbor (woman) and parked her shiny new full sized Hummer at the end of my driveway (with plenty of room anywhere else). I might have been able to get out if I sacrificed an outboard mirror.
After 2 hours she left. I'm in a quandary if her ignorance and stupidity is due to her being a she or a *^@%ing Hummer operator?
Why would anyone want a (vehicle) Hummer?

Anybody remember Lums? They served tap beer, and when I turned 21 I was on the bee line to the place regularly.
Why would anyone want a (vehicle) Hummer?
Because their spouse is waiting for them at home?

the interesting thing is that the chinese will now be building our military vehicles.
what does that matter we sold them the titan missile back in the mid 90's.
as for the h2 and h3 the were nothing more than over priced tahoes and blazers.
Future hummer:

YES!! I remember them as a kid...holy crap! I almost forgot about them. And Farrells too, i saw that picture up there, back in the thread. I remember Farrells used to wheel out this massive bowl of ice cream, like 25 gallons or something stupid like that...as a kid, i thought it looked cool, but even as a kid, i thought it was a waste. Apparently, so did the store owners.
Now, how about Sambo's?? Remember those? They were kind of like a Denny's, but the wallpaper was all Southpark looking characters of animals, explorers and a very racially charged kid in black-face as the mascot, Sambo...they got shut down because those pesky black folks had some kind of "problem" with being racially made fun of by a restaurant chain, go figure. Im not certain thats what shut them down, but it didnt help their cause in a rapidly changing country.
....and good, good...our plan is working out nicely. Turn the Chinese into US!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Hello.
The amazing thing is that I posted this a few months back, not a nibble.
And, as I had posted, that American made custom limo?
A 3rd party buys the base automobile from GM, except it is not actually an autombile, it is the front and rear of what could be a car.
Since it is not a complete automobile, but something that gets "Built in America", there is no issue.
And, Chinese built Hummer? what did you expect?
China has bought licence for key parts of British, French, German and Russian tanks.
The final product is to be out by 2010, a hybred unit with 2 diesel engines and full traction electrics.
In normal operation, a much smaller diesel engine that also serves as an APU provides power with the batteries providing the needed short term burst of energy to get things moving.
But, full power operation to 50+ MPH is the job of a full sized engine.
So, who cares?
We should.
The key to battle is to have the resources to fight the battle.
This thing can sit for days on end, between battery power and the smaller engine, operation for a month between refueling is an option.
But, it is a full fledged tank, operations under speed with full armour.
And, that is how battles are fought, days of sitting and a few hours at most in combat.
So, the Chinese are not simply buying our hardware, they are buying everbody's hardware, picking and choosing the best parts to incorporate into their plans.
Give it another 9 months and it will be all over, the baby will be born.
I did say this would happen, and here it is.

Wow, Lum's really tweaks my normally twisted sense of the past. We never went there as a kid. My Dad had some kind of Jones against Lum's. Kind of like never going to Stuckey's because the gas price at the Texaco was 2 or 3 cents higher a gallon.
As for Farrell's, they were the culmination of any under age 21 event in Fremont, CA, where I grew up. The big ice cream you're talking about, Adam, was called "The Zoo". They used to play the siren and run around the restaurant with the ice cream in a high stretcher before they gave it to you. The next smaller mountain of ice cream was called "Pike's Peak". I was talking to someone recently who told me the different ice cream treats had different names in different parts of the country. My favorite was "the Trough", kind of a banana split on steroids.
Farrell's was the destination for any birthday or after football event if no one wanted pizza. They also had a killer candy store.
Farrell's was also famous for this:
http://www3.gendisasters.com/california/11659/sacramento-ca-jet-crashes-parlor-sep-1972
The pilot "porpoised" down the runway of the (now) Sacramento Executive Airport, lost control and crashed into the Farrell's, killing a total of 22 people. The pilot survived.
Thats Right!! I remember that now...and i remember Pikes Peak. We didnt get that, my dad bought the smaller one with only 10 scoops, or something like that.

Yep, one of my favorite places to go and "get away" in the eighties. There used to be one in Richmond, on Broad near Willow Lawn. I was a regular and they would let me camp out in my corner booth most nights. I'd bring books, or some project to fiddle with and drink a couple of pitchers of beer, sometimes I'd spend the whole evening there.
They had a great footlong chili-dog too.
The building is still there, and still looks like a Lums. I whiled away a ton of hours in that place. They were always very nice and overly accomodating considering my strange ways. Used the place like a living room (mainly because I lived with four other guys my age in a apt.) and they never made me feel like I needed to leave and free up "my" booth.

Which would explain why around here I see mostly women driving the things.
Its mostly upper-middle class housewives driving them around here. And they all have flag stickers, yellow ribbons and other personal notifications of their staunch opposition to anything "left" or "green"...those big dildos are nothing more than a $50,000 socio-political statements, must be nice. Your livingroom-sized bathroom makes more sense to me than that.
I have no bumper stickers on my old Pathfinder, i just dont think the common driver behind me cares all that much what i stand for or believe in...and to tell you the truth, i would really prefer they concentrate on the road and not trying to read bumper stickers anyway. Oh well, i can dream....and swerve quickly!

 Well, I do have a couple of stickers on all my vehicles.
Life Member TN Sheriff's Association and a TN FOP sticker. I do tend to speed a little.
I won't give a dime to the actual TN state or national FOP, only the local FOP, but they aren't allowed to have a sticker of their own. My checks stipulate for local use only, so they aren't required to fork over a portion to the TN state or national FOP as is normal. ;)
Anyway, it's a beautiful night here and I've been sitting outside watching the ground fog form and waft around. It's looks like one of those corny old spook movies.
Twilight in the desert is an amazing sight, i must admit. I love the actual desert, its Vegas living that grates on me. I swear, if i didnt have to live in this town because of what ive built for myself...i would be back out in the sticks, enjoying the evening and watching ground fog form.

The only time I would buy a hummer is if it came with the top-mounted gatling gun. I could exercise my constitutional right to bear arms and beat cross-town traffic at the same time.

Should have called the cops. In many jurisdictions blocking a driveway (or being within 10 feet of either edge of it) is the same as a red zone ticket. Instant hook and tow.
They love the fees and fines on one of those :)

I never dreamed that I would enjoy getting older and having all the infirmities that go along with age but enjoying it I am.
I even got a laugh out of the fact that this morning the county showed up on my road to cut the grass on the road shoulder and ditch in front of my place. Which I worked my arse off on yesterday evening with a trimmer!
When i was a bit younger, i knew that all living things got older and died...i figured i wasnt that special so i would be counted among them. Once that realization occured, i had another one. Maybe life isnt for stressing out, despite the tumult, we all have to go. All our "stuff" and all our little imaginary castles weve constructed are just temporary, nature is grand and should be enjoyed.
So i figure it this way. If you like to take it easy and fish off the back porch on a lazy sunday afternoon, or you like being in the hustle of a busy city, screaming on a cell phone, or you like to go out and get drunk and get laid every night...if all these things make a persons heart happy where they couldnt think of anywhere else they would rather be, then thats the moment they should be living in, and enjoying. Thats why i try to keep from judging how others live if i can help it, i could only deduce thats not how *I* would live...when i look at it THAT way, it all seems ok and not worth worrying about. Theres 7 billion people on this earth, i just need a little space and some provisions of my own and im good to go! :dance
So you dont have to be old to enjoy the slower pace or finer details, you just need to be perceptive to the beauty of wherever you are at the moment. All the infirmities are just part of the deal and are also temporary....as far as i know, anyway. :think

100%, brother Adam. I just came to the conclusion that living in the sticks didn't work for me. I absolutely LOVE the high desert with the birds and wildlife associated with it. I didn't account for the human idiots that went along with the area we lived in. W7NPN was surprised at the low level of human life forms there too.
As for your last paragraph, right on. We are living in a temporary situation in south Sac right now, and I love it. There are the best Mexican, Vietnamese, Thai and American Steakhouses here within a few miles for food. I could do the boo hoo about being unemployed, but it's hard for me to be upset because other than that obstacle, things are going well. I've got a great wife, and my daughter is doing well. My parents are still alive and active and now they aren't too far away, even though they can be annoying!
Exactly! :D
My buddy lives in Olympia, WA with his wife and 4 kids. He runs a big printing brokerage company here in Vegas that could easily eat a person alive considering the gravity of his client base. Its a busy office, but when he gets back to the house here (i rent the upstairs part of the house and he gets the downstairs when hes in town), he just wants to smoke a little, watch Family Guy and release the day. He takes joy in his work and realizes that it could all come crashing down so he doesnt sweat it. He flies back home to Olympia every thursday because it is vitally important to him to maintain his personal connections that matter most, his family.
When he is home, they do everything together...camping trips, build stuff, enjoy dinner together. Unless the office calls with an emergency, he focuses on family. Then he flies back to Vegas on sunday night recharged. But, once a month, he takes a week off and rounds up the family and heads off on some adventure that doesnt cost too much since they are feeling the pinch too. But it doesnt stop them. They have a well stocked garden and everyone helps out, they all get together and discuss things as a family. His wife just finished her Masters in education but is just having a blast taking care of the kids and enjoying every step of their developement...and wow! Great kids too! They dont share the stresses of life with their kids in a negative way, they always keep the simple things in perspective and focus on the important things...this has given that family strength that most dont have. They are selfless. And thats what their kids are growing up with.
My circle of friends are people like that. They dont have to be affluent or stylish, they dont have to be talented or loved by everyone around them. They just have to be real and keep a positive slant on life. Those are the friends i keep for a lifetime. My friend above has been a family friend for 25 years now, ive known several generations of his family and they consider me one of their own....its those connections again. The basic human connections that keep a heart in the right place.
I talk about what i do for a living not out of ego or "hey, look at me", its really not that important. I play a bass and sing some songs onstage...im not solving any economic crisis'. Im not curing cancer, i just make people dance, drink and give them en excuse to try and get laid...but i love doing it. I worked hard to dump the job i didnt like and work twice as hard to make sure that this one sticks around. You just have to follow your heart sometimes. Too many blocked up, angry folks out there killing themselves from inside. I just never wanted to be one of those folks. That shelf life thing, ya know...why speed up our demise if you dont have to. I always tell my son, find something you absolutely LOVE to do and figure out a way to make money with it...if you do that, then everyday is a vacation.
You are a lucky man, the job situation will pass and you will be back on track. Sounds like you have the important things in place. :)

It would have been on top of the approx annual dog crap ticket the neighbor gets for their dog doin my place.

I'm actually in quite the opposite situation.
I lived in the city, lived in three of the 5 boroughs. Some places were fine but some places were horrible. But I was not really happy until I moved out here.
In Queens I hated fighting for parking, hated some idiot bumping your car/scratching the bumper, hated no HF, endless traffic, oversubscribed cable internet nodes, endless reggaeton until midnight (legal by city ordinance).
But most people I met and interacted with were fine, even the people next door who was blasting "gasolina" with their distorted stereo until midnight. Well, except the idiots on the other side who blocked my driveway and demanded to see a city permit before I was allowed to park in my own driveway.
But over here I have space and I have freedom, a tower and beam. One of my neighbors is an idiot, having called code enforcement about 8 inch tall grass in a 2' x 2' section of my yard the first few months we moved in. The tower practically gave her a heart attack. (good)
But the others are fine and mostly don't bother us. One asked if they could have the weather vane on our barn, but my wife said no and I think she made the right decision (it's beautiful and adds character).
Yes I have a long commute but I really don't care. I have work from home some days and the weekends are appreciated a lot more.

I've had neighbors party guests block mine, but if I went and asked they would unblock, but they only do that, and usually on accident, when the street is pretty crowded. If nobody is around, they never park anywhere near it.
Somebody that parks like that is asking for it. But, if you had backed out and TOUCHED her precious car, she would have been on her cell phone screaming for you to be arrested.
One thing I try to do as a larger vehicle driver is to park further out or at least make sure I'm centered in my space so I'm not causing grief for the people next to me, and I don't try to squeeze into compact spaces. I see people do that so much I'm not surprised people feel the way they do about idiots like the one you talked about. People just don't care.
The one I loved though was a few months ago in Reno. Guy didn't want his BMW messed up so he parked it at a 90 degree angle to the spaces. When I went in nobody was next to him. When I came out he was standing there screaming at someone on his cell phone-2 big SUV's had parked in their spaces next to him within the lines, but because of the way he had parked he couldn't move his car in either direction. I can imagine if he called the cops and they came out, they would probably ask him why he parked that way....

Yes, yes, yes, I remember them. They were kind of a bad imitation of McDonalds, and not nearly so good. But they were close, so we wound up there a lot in '64-65. And 16-17 year old digestive organs could actually handle all the grease. In fact, they seemed to thrive on it.
Sooooo....that "woman" is the one that parks all those BA SUV's next to my small Celica! Must be. I know that a lot of BA vehicle drivers are very full of themselves and have no realization that there are other people in the world besides themselves, but this example takes the cake. Ugh!!! :x

Stopped yesterday at a Shell in Carson City NV to top off before heading home over the Carson Pass. Guy in a H3 in front of me when I pulled in. I went in, paid for my pump, went to the bathroom, came back outside and the 2 attendants were standing there with the guy. When he pulled away, he turned left, not minding the bollard at the end of the island and hit about midway on the left side, then proceeded to drag it all the way across to the rear, yanking the bumper halfway off.
I pumped my gas. Carson Sheriff showed up and asked if I had saw it, I said no, but the wife was sitting in the truck the whole time. She was laughing so hard she had tears going. She gave the cop a quick statement and we left.
I bet thats going to cost the guy some cash.
