10 m it tunes as resonate on the swr analer but it it placed on the edge of the roof rather than being more cntral and on better ground plain

I believe you'll get better radiation toward the direction of the most ground. But like 6 meters, if 10 meters opens up, it won't much matter. A mag mount isn't always the best ground anyway. I ran a 10 meter vertical on an 18" square of sheet metal nailed to a corner of my patio fence and worked 6 countries and 48 states on 10 when the band opened on 50 watts. Otherwise, it was all local.

Like MJT said, generally you will notice a lobe in the direction of the ground. In other words, a significant portion of your radiated signal will travel in the direction of the metal, and less towards the edge near where the antenna is mounted.

A way to picture this is if you have the antenna mounted on the driver's side rear of a car, most of your energy will be towards the passenger side front.

Be careful using a CB antenna, some of the cheaper ones cannot handle amateur radio power levels. Wilson base loaded antennas will, and most of the heavy aluminum ones with the exposed coil should be okay. Radio Shack type stuff? No.

102" whip kicks butt with a tuner.

Don't you mean be careful using an Amateur antenna, most cannot handle CB radio power levels?
