XYL and I are having Saturday night margaritas in a while, and maybe watch another episode of the Black Adder. But she'll make me watch a chick flick after that, which I won't mind if the margaritas are strong enough.
God said "Let there be alcoholic beverage"....and man was happy.

Some on the zed think I'm a real saucer, but it's not so, I always pass out first.

I used to drink a lot, but after about 25 years of that, I was getting to like it too much so I quit.

I have never been much of a drinker, but during the last 6 months or so I have been making up for that. When do you know if you are going to be an alcoholic?

When Greg seems to be making sense.

When it becomes too much a part of your life. When you live to drink. When you drink way too much and it does way too little. Usually others will know before you do.
Came close once. If you've been alcoholic once before and managed to quit, you have to be in denial to become one again. You usually know what your limit is.

I used to wonder about that. One day (early last year), I just quit -- it was starting to cause health problems. Probably been drinking about a half dozen times since, and don't much like it. Well, I like it, just don't like the aftereffects. Bouncing back from a good drunk really takes training!
George has as good an answer as any I've heard. The classic warning signs are things like drinking first thing in the morning, putting drinking ahead of responsibilities, not being able to remember last night, etc. All of which I've done at one time or another. And of course, it's all framed within the scope of upstanding taxpayin' citizenry, and I hate that shit anyway, so I always figured that as long as I wasn't beating on anyone and the bills were getting paid, all was okay. Somewhere in there, I paid off a 30 year mortgage in 17 years.
I only ever got into beer, though, and not that good stuff Bill drinks. :P
Oooo! This board has auto-censoring!!! :D

had a half bot of French Vigonier tonight. It had some hints of delight but too cheap to be worth anything. I can't afford the "good stuff".

That and your taste is why you'll never be a "saucer."
SVA over on the Zed just accused me of being a doper and a drunk, though. 'Course, he thinks I'm a "LIB" and that all "LIBS" are dopers and drunks. Steeeeerike two!

I have a beer or two every Christmas eve, and that's just about it. When I turned 21, I did try to single handily consume every drop of alcohol in the state of New Jersey.

I had a 6-pack of Trippel last Friday. That's pretty rare anymore... Haven't done "beer for breakfast" since my college days. Come to think of it, drinking was about the only thing I learnt in kollige that had any lasting effect.

Maybe that's what cured you even before the disease ever hit. I keep telling myself I'm gonna go a whole week completely dry just to experience it, but when I see a beer bottle in the fridge I grab it. Will have to let the reefer go bare and see if that works.

How much do you drink Bill? I can tell when you are a bit sloshed BTW.
Well, I do enjoy the spirit a bit and am definitely no teetotaler.
But if KU4MY doesn't change that avatar, I might have to quit.
My God man, my toe is killing me!!!!

You are indeed gifted for I often can't tell when I'm sloshed.
Very rarely do I exceed my daily ration of 2 beers OR 1/2 btl of wine. I almost always wait till dinner time to consume with my meal. On those RARE occasions when I exceed my usual...LOOK OUT!
BTW: I have been known to have less than my daily usual too.
What you puttin down these days Dave?

What are you taking? Not vodka I hope. My 47 year old brother James passed away 2 weeks ago. He was a vodka hound (plus other mind altering substances). Officially it was heart failure but they said his liver was operating at about 10% of capacity.

Sorry to hear about your brother, Bill. Lucky is the man who can't stand the taste of the "hard stuff."

I think the hard stuff tastes wonderful. It's too damned expensive to sip regularly.
