I got about one fourth of the way through this page when I confirmed that I don't know jack about Macs.
Anyone like Macs enough to give the Fred Flintstone synopsis of what's going on?
I think they're building a Mac. LOL!

What? No Fleetwood Mac around here?
I honestly thought I was going to reminisce for a minute. :D :D

They are showing how to build an OS X compatible machine and install OS X on it.
Basically build a Mac clone for 10% of a Macs price.#

Dig the OS X link, I'll have to grab a copy.

Thanks for 'splainin. I was wondering if there was an added cool factor for the case since it looks like a VCR/DVD rec/player.
10% of a Mac price hmmm? Actually sounds worth investigating.

This is the kind of thing though that will get the 'purists' up in arms. But the bottom line is, on a Mac, more than 50% of the price is the dang name.

They would probably get more people into their fold if it wasn't for the "gotta have pure apple" equipment requirement.

I sometimes wonder how the heck they stay in business. Brand loyalty, I guess.

Yes, it sucks.

And the lack of software doesn't really impress me either.

I have yet to have a problem finding quality software.

As far as the OS, I'm keen on it because it is quiet. No bubbles popping up out of the tray like a nerdy teen craving attention and validation to let me know that I have unused icons on my desktop. And even when I say "yes, deal with that", to prove scientific solutions like putting them all in a folder called "Unused Icons", that ostensibly, I'll never use. No minutely cries for reboots because my software has been updated, no stern warnings that I don't have a firewall. And no need to hunt around on the internet to find all the places I need to go to shut up my OS.

To each his own though. I have learned to like Windows a whole lot less since I've been involved in writing software for it.

I did internet tech support for an ISP for Macs about 7 years ago. (Hint, the name rhymes with STINK). This was back when the I-Whack came out in all its purdy colors.

Anyway, some of the first run iMacs had issues with the internal 56k modem. Apple acknowledged this and even sent us a notice with a URL to direct owners to for service on the matter. Nope, they would call and blame us. We'd tell them it was an Apple issue and they wouldn't believe us, because Apple wouldn't do that. Even though it was posted on the website.

We had a few on desks (every other one) so we could go to them if need be to get people to click on the right settings or advanced troubleshooting (I was in Tier II tech support). At that time, the best browser for them was a microsoft product, IE. They may have a lot more now, but being PC ingrained I didn't really find them impressive.

But being a PC/Mac Level II tech was a 50 cent an hour increase and a faster track to a lead....err, being laid off, it turns out. :) Course, they eliminated all the perm employees and ran the call center for about 6 months with temps before shuttering it altogether.

That was my last MAC experience cept for setting up iTunes for my wife on her PC. :)

Ever use one?

We have tons of them here. I use one every day. Our video editors and graphics editors also use them.

I don't see what's so special. It's just a computing platform.

However I am probably getting a mac mini to replace my aging Dell desktop. That's only because I want a stable Unix platform on my desktop while being able to use DRMed media legally.
