I stumbled across this contest last night...the CQ 160 meter CW contest (SSB is next month).

Anyhow, running 20 watts with the Argonaut V, a random-wire antenna about 150' long, and a ground wire attached to a chain link fence for a counterpoise, I managed to work the following states/provinces from Colorado in about 40 minutes:

IL
WY
NY
TX
NM
IA
CA
MN
CO
AR
SK
WI
MO

I've always wondered if I was even getting out on 160 since CW activity is so sparse there. But the band was crammed with signals last night! They must have been using fancy receiving antennas to hear my peanut whistle.

That's cool Art. The Argo is a terrific radio.

Wow, that's impressive for 160 running almost QR PEE PEE .
I have one of those shortened B&W vees for 160, only 96' long. Like having a suspended ,outdoor dummy load.

I am surprised those Kansans weren't on the air. They have all the land to put up antennas.
