A while back I scratch built a transmitter and receiver for HF. The transmitter is a one tube 6L6 Xtal osc. It was designed for CW but I wanted to ues it on AM. So after some experimenting, I ran a wire from the modulated B+ from an old Heath Lunch box , directly to the plate of the 6L6, and the audio isn't too bad. It puts out about 5 watts, but if I use it with my Heath SB-200 amp, I get about 25 watts to the antenna. The receiver is a one tube regen with a swinging link that I designed ,which couples the antenna to the regen coil. The third piece contains a two tube audio amplifier and the power supply for the receiver. The station will work on 40, 75/80 , and 160. So far I have about 25 states logged on 75 AM with it , and a hand full of contacts on 160 CW.
Check it out here.........

Now that's really cool. I'll look at those pix more closely when I get back from the local war protest in Boulder.

That swinging link is clever. I built a regen but just used capacitive coupling with a little trimmer.

I could have gone either way Art , but I thought the swinging link looked really trick. BTW, the tube that the link goes over, doesn't function as a tube, it's a coil form. I zapped the filament with 120vac, wound the regen coils on it, then soldered the leads to the pins under the tube envelope. I made up 3 plug in coils for 40, 75/80, and 160. It took me a week just to wind the coils, what a job.

It was snowing and on the chilly side, so only a couple hundred showed up. Two of the speakers were Iraq war vets and still in the military: a 2nd lt and an enlisted fellow. They said the whole thing was a multi-dimensional clusterfuck essentially.
Other speakers emphasized that Congress is only passing non-binding resolutions to withhold funding for the war, and those resolutions were useless...just political moves to make them look better to the electorate while snuggling up closer to the prez for whatever political capital they think they can gain. The only way around that is to write to our representatives and tell them that this sort of crap ain't gonna work anymore.

I am very disappointed with the Dems so far. When I heard they voted to approve additional funding for the moron's SURGE , I almost fell off the chair.

Wow, this stuff is really cool. I don't quite get the swinging link in the receiver. Is the large coil around the tube shifted side to side or lifted up and down by the knob and linkage?
Are there coils wound tightly around the tube form that I can't see?
Your station is a treat to gaze at.

Let's see if I can explain this. The link is attached to a string spool from the tuning cap out of an old broadcast receiver. This assembly is attached to a shaft with set screws. The shaft runs through a vertical support mounted on the chassis into an insulated shaft coupling. Another short shaft runs from the coupling through the front of the receiver to the control knob. When the knob is turned it raises or lowers the link around the coil. On the other side of the spool , I put a small spring which acts to counter the weight of the link, keeping it where you set it.
