I have a problem with FT 847 it is not prefroming right on any HF band not on 6 m if I choose the option that combines 6 m onto the hf tenna port VHF UHF is fine but anything through the hf port is kinda deaf on the receive and transmit
get worse the longer the wavelength anythoughts on what may be wrong and what fixing it might take
huh
Try again. I barely got what that was.

Ft 847 which I have been using for years at VHF plus is not working at hf well at all and 6 m goes to hell if I choose to set it to use the same port as HF changing radio (now that the wifes new HF rig arrived I put it on and it is working well with the SAME coax and antena power suply and Hear better too on the other rig and peopl e can ahrdly hear me but can on the other rig so I have problem not sur e what it is althoough this HF anntena port had n't been used in 7 years till feb I seem to have an 847 that only seems to work at VHF plus an ic 718 is outprefroming hands down although it seesm to get worse (the 847 ) as I go down in freq

I can't really help. Is that one that Yaesu (Yazoo in SC) is no longer supporting?
Find someone local who can fix it.
When I first got my FT100, I brought it home, hooked up an antenna and listened. Sounded great, reception was unbelievable then all of a sudden, I watched the s-meter dropping and the reception fade out. Tried different antennas but no change.
The lower I went in frequency the faster the reception would die out.
I took it back to HRO Atlanta where I could not seem to convince Smitty that it was not an audio problem. Whatever I said, got another FT100 (that was late 1999) which is in the shop as I type because of the famous Yazoo We Don't Support Our Radios finals.

My only guess would be a diplexer issue in the radio. Or somehow RF got into the receiver from some other malfunction.

How's your SWR? Some radios are more finnicky than others.
Apart from that, it could be anything from the finals to an antenna relay.
RF getting in could definitely be the culprit.
Try using a dummy load and see. If it works fine with the dummy load, I would look at your antenna system and grounding.
