View Full Version : Single malt anyone?
Any of you guys enjoy single malt scotch?
Was given a bottle of Dalmore 12 year for Christmas and have been enjoying a little here and there. A little goes a long way and it is quite enjoyable with a fine cigar. Not too sweet, not too dry.

Interesting that you use the word sweet to describe straight scotch whisky. I'd say you are a connoisseur of the stuff. I never much cared for the single malts but preffered the blended darker scotches. They seem to me to have richer, creamier, fuller bodied flavor...and yes, a bit sweet.
French brandy is my preffered sipping hooch. Try a splash of good Cognac in a snifter with that cigar, or some good Armagnac after a meal which included a dry red wine.
I have found that scotch and port are the two best booze type drinks to have with a cigar. Just depends on the mood as to which one.
For everyday stuff, a nice cup of coffee or tea does the trick.

I'm nowhere near this refined. Something wrong with roasting a doobie and drinking a Bud Light?

I visited the wine country around Temecula, CA last week and one winery was offering tastings of their domestic port with chocolate. What a wonderful combination, the port was quite good too.

Thanks. I think you'll like here as compared to dealing with the bloody wankers at QRZ.com.

Reminds me of that rolling paper they used to put in the Cheech & Chong Album. I used to have one. The rolling paper, that is. I still have the album!

I'm going to have to try one of these. Blended Scotch has been most of what's available here, like Pinch in the easy to drink out of bottle:

I resemble that remark.
It's Race day in Richmond, and Lenny, kg4cfp has been up from Atlanta rigging that Nascar sound this week.
So we've had a day or two of playing music, heavy drinkin', and being generally obnoxious.
:whistle
This thread reminds me. I have not enjoyed a glass of scotch for far too long.
If you have some cheap scotch on hand you can try this beverage. Have not tried it myself, but probably will soon.
2 oz. Scotch
1.5 oz. Cinnamon Schnaps
A few dashes of Tabasco to taste.
Pour over ice and either enjoy or puke your guts out.
Ok I just mixed up the above cocktail and I have one word for it.
HOT!!!
I cannot taste the scotch. The cinnamon and tabasco is all I can taste and it burns!!
Would probably be nice on a very cold day, but not right now.

I don't really like Scotch whiskey, I'm a Bourbon drinker. I like it either with some water and ice, or Whiskey Sour...if I'm out of mixer I just drink it with some lemonade or lemon juice alone. The lemon juice kills some of the burn for some reason. Sometimes I'll sip it straight, but not very often. I've been wanting to go to Kentucky for the Bourbon Festival but haven't had the chance yet.

I shall now enjoy some Jameson Special 12 Reserve.
While I do that, I will think sympathetic thoughts of all those poor people who have to drink scotch.
Sine Metu!
Somewhere further down the Food & Beverage page I posted a "Malt Whisky Guide" if you're interested.

Disclaimer: I claim no accuracy in the spelllings I'm using.
Glenlivet 12 as an everyday scotch. You can drink it everyday without it getting to be "too much."
Glenlivet 18 for a special treat now and then. But it's "too much" for an everyday drink.
Then there's the Islay scotches...
Lagavulen 16 - This and Glenlivet 18 are my favorites. Can't decide between the two for No. 1, tho'
LaPhroigh - Just love it's smokiness!
Here's my call in the Glenlivet/MacAllen rivalry. Actually, it's no rivalry and purely a matter of personal taste. I perfer the darker, smokier Glenlivet yet there are people who swear by MacAllen. They're both wonderful scotches.
There are many more outstanding scotches. Balvenie Port Wood is nice when you can get it.
If you have bags of money, the exotic (25 year +) Glenlivets are awesome.
But....Caution! Caution! Caution!
Here's the straight skinny on the first bottle of single malt you own. It's very, very easy to drink more than you want because they go down sooooooo smoothly. It's a common occurrance for the drinker to overdo it a LOT the first time said drinker is drinking out of his own bottle. The one and only time people started throwing sidewalks at my face was the first time I had my own bottle of Glenlivet. Cuidado!
Cheers!
