Why do you guys hate America so much?

Because it seemed like the thing to do. Everybody's doing it. The devil made me do it. God told me to. Because it is so difficult going though security at the airport. I am getting too much Bush.

And there is a secret squirrel out there.

On a flight in Asia, I saw a movie called "Little Miss Sunshine" It featured the little girl dancing to Super Freak. That was pretty wild.

Could this be a serious post? Geez louise, if you've got the cajones to post this, why not log in with your call? Besides, this isn't disrespect. He may be da Decider, but he's yet to be elected. Respect is earned and that is job #1. Not making the grade but usurping it killed that on day #1.

This may be the case in your world but in mine it's supremely embarrassing to have that goof as our leader in the first place, AND the significant percentage of Americans still supporting him.

And, honestly, its not like any other country that has the internet isn't on there complaining about their own leaders either. Its not just an American thing to complain about our leaders, paying taxes, potholes in the road, etcetera.

No we don't. We're not fine upstanding neo-cons who support an administration that has yet to win an election, that allowed 9/11 to happen on their watch, that lied to get us in Iraq, that lied about Plamegate, that spied on Americans, that demonized anybody who disagreed with them...

Just who do we think we are??

If anything, hearing public criticism about the government is welcome evidence that free speech still exists in a meaningful form. I think that people are critical of their government for many reasons ranging from a high-minded and passionate belief that the country can and should do much better, to a base contempt for it.

Sadly, the more simple-minded folks immediately go to the "hate America" well whenever criticism is raised.
It's imperative that those with legitimate concerns about their government and country not be bullied into silence by this transparent intimidation tactic.

I was in the Navy for 20 years. I've been to a lot of different countries world wide.
None of those countries, none of them, even come close to the freedoms, even sightly diluted lately,
that we have here in the USA.

I'm proud to be a citizen of the USA. Yes we got problems, some big problems. But ain't it nice
to be able to bitch and moan about all you think is wrong? You can write your Senator, your Representative
and tell you think he's a chump, post demeaning pictures of the president and its all your right to do so.

Where else?

K1OU: America includes Canada, Central America and South America, and a bunch of islands. We are are citizens of
the United States of America.

I don't hate America, and I don't think you do either.

I absolutely don't hate America. However, what I resent is the far right implying that I hate America because I don't agree with them.

KF5ER
07-18-2007, 06:34 PM
I don't agree with the far right or the far left. I sit on the fence, leaning this way, then that way.

K1OU: Is that avatar really you? Jesus you're freaky looking! But then again, thats your right here
in the USA.

It's a long and sordid tale '5ER. And thanks for your service to our country. And double thanks for presenting it modestly, with tact, and with great respect. I can tell that you felt honored to serve. You should give lessons on this approach!

We all want to express our ideas and opinions, share them with others, and receive the thought of others on those ideas and opinions. Internet forums should provide the ideal vehicle in which to do this, but unfortunately those without original thoughts and ideas exposed a generic weakness with the internet ... total lack of personal responsibility and self control. In a public setting, there is a social price to be paid for making a fool of yourself ... you will be shunned. On the internet, the uncreative still have the platform available, unless it's removed by force by others, and their message of envy quickly erodes into one of hate.

No original thought is allowed, without being viciously attacked, on large forums such as qrz. Here, with a smaller audience, the platform is more equally shared, and the opinions and ideas are allowed to be shared and discussed. Oh, it's not perfect here, but it's quite a bit better than elsewhere. And, hate begets more hate, and it increases at an exponential rate, until all you have is a room full of people screaming at the top of their lungs. The environment that qrz has been allowed to degrade into.

To some degree, most of us here have contributed to that, unwittingly at first, viciously later. i think any normal person put into what I call the mental meat grinder will, out of total frustration, retaliate, and add to the degradation.

It was my observation that Jerry is more capable of thinking outside the box, and was relentlessly attacked by those who were caught up in the ongoing shouting match. Frustration set in, coupled with inconsistent moderation, and Jerry struck back. More so than I would have, and certainly more than say Mike, the owner here, would have, but each of us is different, and will react accordingly.

Anyway, I think jerry got a bum deal, and he may growl at me, but he solidified his banishment (although I laughed as hard as anyone watching the gnashing of teeth when he tormented them) by continuing to whack the cage bars there with the 2x4. I too, should be banned from there, as I attacked a fellow who pushed me beyond my ability to reason with some juvenile profanity. Interestingly enough, that fellow is now a member here, and I consider him a very good friend.

Anyway, I just wanted to say I personally appreciate that you display great tolerance with your message, and I wanted you to know that I think Jerry is a good dude, with a great sense of humor, who was greatly underappreciated elsewhere. And generally it is how I feel about 90% of the folks here.

Now, would somebody kick my a$$ off the soapbox already?

73,
Luke
