what we did was using the (I know it is a bad word) QRZ databasem and get a list of all the hams in the area, and setup a spreadsheet with contact information, be it email or mailing address. invited all the inactive, or new hams to a "open house".
We also decided to do more than the monthly meetings and weekly nets, we decided to try a "project night" where we would work on antennas, small QRP rigs etc.
They want to elect me president of the club, but I want to say no so bad.
I don't have the time for it, honestly.

You'd think I would organize MYSELF into a club, but I can't get myself to agree. Oh, and the population is four, thank you very much! One of the gals brought back something from her Vegas vacation...

Something that didn't STAY in Vegas...
Really, they had a club here a few years ago, but apparently there was some hanky panky amongst some members and other members wives, or something like that (I can never get the full story) and the club disbanded. I would try to help organize one, but with my rotating schedule I can't be depended upon for any kind of regular meetings or events. I'd love to have a local club! But no dice.
Yeah, that's my problem too. They did remember to call for my '08 dues though. :dance

Call it the "No-Club Club" membership dues to be pain in b33r or your favorite adult beverages to be used during events such as field day etc. :D

Dunno, but regarding what I understand your initial statement to say, even though you are in a rural area, are the club members active on the air? It would seem to me that unless your missing membership are all chasing DX on HF, surely you guys use a 2m simplex frequency, or, better yet, a repeater..... right? If so, do you guys have a 2m net on simplex or the repeater? If your answer is no to all of the above, then you are likely to be in an area like Audie and you may very well be a club of one.
As an idea, we do these:
a) 7 day per week net on our 2m wide area coverage machine.... quantity of check ins varies from a couple of dozen to near 50 per night, every night.
b) If you have a net, 2m machine or a local simplex frequency, beat to death info about club meetings.... time, date, location, subject for the evenings meeting.
c) No 2m machine? Do it on simplex, 146.520, if you are that sparsely populated that you don't have a local simplex rag chew frequency.
d) Has everyone moved on to HF and do they per chance, participate in any 80m SSB or CW nets? If so, go there and talk up the club, upcoming meeting dates, times and subjects for discussion (foxhunts, Field Day, what ever).
e) If none of the above is relevant, just say to heck with it if you like and you can always claim the notoriety of being the club's last president. If there is nobody left in your area that wants to play radio.... don't beat yourself up over it.
f) Finally, even if there is just handful of you, say, 10 active members or less, have you considered having an informal club meeting at a local diner? We have a decent little old restaurant where the 'Lunch Bunch' meets up every Friday from about 11 until 1:30pm, as everyone does not have the same lunch time, but, wants to meet up with other club members when he/she can. They are quite informal meetings and awfully good food and fun. This does not have to be a Monday through Friday thing either...... the club in the next county, rather than meeting every Friday for lunch, meets at a cafe on the first Saturday morning of every month for brunch.
You'd think I would organize MYSELF into a club, but I can't get myself to agree. Oh, and the population is four, thank you very much! One of the gals brought back something from her Vegas vacation...
A crab?

They aren't 'A' for long, or so I hear, as the little buggers are allegedly like rabbits.
