View Full Version : Strange Issue - Or is it?

My rig is connected like this:

TenTec Omni VII ---> RigRunner 4008 ---> Astro Flight Current/Voltage Meter ---> SEC 1223 Power Supply

The RigRunner has a Normal, Undervoltage, and Overvoltage light. Occasionally the Normal light will begin to flutter. The only thing that resolves this problem is powering off the Omni VII and back on. There's no pattern, it can happen after 2 minutes of operation or after 2 hours.

When the light begins to flutter the voltage and current levels remain the same as they do when the light is solid. There seems to be no negative impact on operation when it starts to happen, but it's alarming, none the less.

Any idea what could be the cause? Cheap power supply? Faulty LED?

Thanks in advance!

PS - I do have other rigs connected to the RigRunner, but this does happen when the other rigs are powered off.

Since you have a voltmeter in there, seems like you could look at that and make a judgment for yourself if it is too high or low.

What does it read?

Sorry, I should have said so... 13.7v.. like I said, the voltage and current seems to remain consistent, regardless of the flickering or not.

Looks like your indicator has a problem. Maybe the connection to it or the light itself has a problem.

See if you can fix your RIGrunner or ignore it.

Divide and conquer!

I'd start by plugging the Omni directly into the PS. Then add the RigRunner and meter one at a time. Does it have the problem if the Omni is plugged directly into the PS? If not, the problem is in the RigRunner or the meter.

Y'know, though... I'm running everything here through a RigRunner 4012. It's behind the console and I can't see the lights. If everything works and the voltages look good, that may be an option.

Kinda sounds like a flakey LED circuit to me.
