I operated a little. Made about 10 contacts, and had a lot of compliments about my fist es signal.

Did you work it?

I thought SKN meant Silent Key Night. Maybe that's why I didn't hear much.

Oh, gawd...

Speaking of which, here's the obit (verbatim, as published) for an old pal of mine, WBØGCC, who died in 2001:

Jim Betz, 62, of Aurora, a civil servant, died Monday in Englewood. Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Olinger Aurora Chase Chapel, 1095 Havana St. Interment will be in Olinger Eastlawn Cemetery.

He was born Oct. 28, 1938, in Omaha. He worked for the Air Force. He was a ham radio operator and a member of Silent Key and Aurora Repeater Association.

He is survived by three sons, Clay, Steven, and Donald "DJ"; two sisters, Alvina Bahr and Anne Mattingly; and six grandchildren. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 789 Sherman St., Suite 500, Denver, CO 80203.

He would have loved it; the author knew what they were doing.
