seems like a good buy if Envision is a quality brand.
Will go look tomorrow.

It appears to be a good monitor, found one review on it:

THINKCOMPUTERS REVIEW (http://www.thinkcomputers.org/index.php?x=reviews&id=662)

Hope that helps!

Can't say, but the way I look at it is there are only a few factories in the world that turn out LCD monitors, so pretty much, they're very similar. IMHO, newer ones have better specs and you pay more, that's all.

I am staring at a 17" LCD Envision it is about five years old and still working fine. There are monitors with better resolution but the one I have has worked well for a number of years.

I picked up the Envision H1981 today at Best Buy. Seems to be working OK. $160 was the right price anyway.

Congrats! I'm looking forward to upgrading my monitors, but all my computers still have 17" or 19" CRT's that work great, so no need to replace them ... yet!

I got a 17" Optiquest LCD last Xmas for about $150 (after rebate). Love it.

The problem with most 19" LCD's is that they don't offer more resolution. The screens are bigger, but so are the pixels, so the bigger screen doesn't help that much.

I have a 22" Viewsonic wide screen. I think we paid less than $300 for it.

It sounds expensive, but it was the only monitor I found that generated no hash on HF...

My Dell ultrasharp 19" added 2 S units of hash. I gave it away to a friend.

the manual for the monitor says the graphic card in the computer's maximum refresh rate shouldn't be over:
VESA 1280 x 1024 @ 75 Hz

according to the info on the input signal (in the monitor's menu selection) it's: H. frequency: 79.99
V. frequency: 75.03
Pixel Clock: 135.04

do I need to adjust it down? How do I do that, *Duh*.

Never mind....I got an answer on the Zed. Is there anything lost by reducing the refresh rate down from 75 Hz to 60Hz? The monitor manual recommends 60Hz. but it looks like 75 is OK, but don't go over that.

60Hz should be where it's set, 75Hz is close enough to where you shouldn't notice any difference, but anything beyond that and it won't be able to deal with it.

Now all you need is an HD video card.

K1LLA got him an Envision. It worked very well for him. He was impressed.

You'll see less flicker at 75Hz than at 60. Over time you are less likely to get eyestrain at 75Hz because of that.

I've never been able to use anything below 85Hz on a computer CRT monitor.

75Hz will give me a headache.

Honestly though, on an LCD it won't matter much.

I can set it at 60, 70, 75. Maybe the 70 setting would be best?

The only negative thing I've found with this monitor is, if I have a colored background that fills the whole screen it appears to be slightly, but noticably darker on the upper portion of the screen. The manual says I must view the screen from straight on to preferably a below (looking upward at it) angle.

Thanks for the comments.
