I just got a break in the interview scheds and picked up a bottle of Glenmorangie 10yo from the corner store across the street (corner stores with single malts, BRILLIANT!) and I'd swear that even the 10yo here is smoother than 35yo back home.
A little more flavorful to be sure, but none of the bite I expect from a 10yo.
I think they just send us the shit shipments.

try the 17 year old aged in sherry casks. It's heavenly.
I used to work with Sherry Richwine.
Not real heavenly, but a nice person.

They do, especially some of the lesser-known blends which consist mainly of washings bought in from various distilleries. I don't think it's the distilleries which, obviously, are traditionalists and take pride in their work, but the distributors or bottlers if it arrives in bulk.
