I have an issue in Win 2003 server.

Unfortunately we have NO ONE around here who knows about it, so I've decided to try fix it myself.

Basically we have a FTP job that downloads stuff into a folder (in the web hierarchy). Problem is that when it downloads, there are no permissions for the IIS user for the downloaded files, even though there are permissions on the folder itself for the user. I have to manually set permissions, and annoyingly enough each time it downloads.

IIS is going away next year because I want to get rid of the Micro$oft servers, but for now I need this working as we have broken images in some parts of the site as a result.

Any ideas?

no suggestions from me, but this is what I have figured out... I am running Win2k3 server, kinda learning how it works as I go.

On thing that I have noticed; with Win2K Advanced Server, permissions were default ON, on Win2K3, permission, even for the admin accounts, permissions is OFF. Even after you set up shares, you still need to five the admin permsission. Don't know about WinXPensive, but with WinXPensive 64b version, I have to assign permissions as well as shares. God help us when/if Vista becomes the standard OS, that is, after it stops being the Windows ME of the NT set.

Well for now I made a batch file using cacls to set the permissions.

I thought that any file created in a dir would inherit its permissions. Any idea how to do that?

Under Security settings, advanced do you have the inheritance box checked?

My parents were very poor and had no real assets.

which user is running the ftp job?

which user owns the folder?

how soon can you switch to something civilized? :)
