View Full Version : Turkey Day !!!

11-16-2007, 09:54 AM
Here it is now, the weekend before the biggest eating day of the year, and we are posting articles that quote restaurant managers who say that Clinton pays her tips on her dinner rather than someone here giving tips on fixing the big dinner we all look forward to.

So I would like to throw out the green bean dish that always goes over real well and is über easy to make.

Take a casserole dish and fill it with a couple of cans of green beans drained. Mix in a couple of cans of cream of mushroom soup just straight out of the can. Mix in a HALF of the can of those dried onions. Only a half can.

Microwave that mixture until warm. A few minutes depending on your microwave.

When it is hot, sprinkle the rest of the dried onions on the top of the mixture and serve.

Ah, nothing like white trash casserole to bring it all home! A perennial favorite at Chez Benson!

heh heh.

Another office party food is a deep dish pizza. One of those Appian Way mixes to get the thing started, and then just pile on the goodies and cheese. And don't forget the Jalapeños either.

Pronounced hal-eh-PAIN-yoes.

Depends. Are you having white trash casserole*?

If so, a sixer of Bud Lite might do the trick.

*See, I told ya.

that casserole is something I'd expect to find on turkey day at the rescue mission, right next to the large pot of stewed hobo socks.
Looks like it's gonna be the Pinot, but I'm also bringing a 1.5 liter bottle of Spanish white along.

Yes Jerry, it's not ha-la-PEE-nos.
Did you pee.....no, not yet.

The Italians take fresh green beans, boil them till they're almost done, drain them well, then stir fry them in a minced garlic and butter mix with some fresh grated nutmeg. Excellent!

If I get to go to me Mum's, all I pray to the great Turkey God for is Yorkshire pudding with gravy and very heavily spiked Triffle for afters....

As far as foreign white trash recipes go….. if you cannot make Yorkshire pud, you never will be able to, it’s a genetic thing so there’s no sense in trying to explain….. now, for Triffle….. I could be coaxed into divulging a family secret if you wish.

Where at the end of the festivities, only one serving was taken, just to be nice to whomever concocted it....

Start with one fugu.

Chop it up into little pieces.

Call the local mortician. Mebbe KG4KWW.

Serve cold.

DON'T forget to make that call. That is most important. Those last arrangements are important to other loved ones.

Shrimp Platter:

Ingredients

1 pound cocktail shrimp
1-2 8oz blocks cream cheese- softened
1 bottle cocktail sauce
2 stalks celery

Finely mince the celery and lay it out in a single layer on a serving platter or other such dish.

Next you take the cream cheese and spread it over the celery. You want between a 1/4 and 1/2 inch layer on top of the celery.

Pour the cocktail sauce over cream cheese evenly. Next you layer the shrimp over the cocktail sauce.

Serve with crackers. I have found that the chicken flavored crackers add to this combination.

We do something similar, but no cream cheese.

Shred lettuce into the bottom of a Margarita - type glass.
Pour a little cocktail sauce over the lettuce.
Line the rim of the glass with 10-12 shrimp.

Real simple and it's been a hit here for years as an appetizer.

Rastus is anxious to win Ruby's heart so he asks:
Ruby, would you like to go out with me.
to which she replies yes.....
Rastus asks, do you like cocktails?
she replies, "Yes, tell me some".
