Don't go to school with Larry Craig.
#1 That's naughty
#2 They have you locked out of inappropriate sites for a reason
#3 Don't make me come up there and paddle you
#4 Try going to http://www.myschoolproxy.com or some other such naughty place to get to where you want to go at school (or work for that matter). ;)

I can't see anything on photobucket or youtube at work, and some of the avatars here just don't show up for some reason. We have an internet policy and are not banned from the net but you have to be extra careful about what you look at.

If your school/work blocks that (most do) run a linux box at home, and run "squid". Assuming you have a decent connection at home.
Shhhh... You didnt hear about that here.
I've been on both sides - i.e. I set up web filters (websense and symantec, formerly known as iGear).
If they block all ports and proxy the web traffic, you are SOL.
However, if they leave some ports open, especially port 22 you can set up a SSH tunnel with ur home machine and connect to it using PuTTY and proxy using squid or even apache. They won't be able to see ur traffic and what sites u visit b/c its encrypted.
I won't tell u how to do it, but if you can figure out how to do what I said, you've basically proven that your school's network admins are idiots.

You can configure sshd for ANY port, I do this just for security. Squid is its own proxy, doesnt need ssh. Granted it wont be encrypted.. Few monitor actual traffic though, if you're just looking at junk, I wouldnt do banking/commerce though such a thing though.

If you have to ask that question here you're not hanging around with the nerds. Seek out the kids who look like Buddy Holly with a pocket protector, they can hack the DoD with a bent paper clip.

I had a coworker one time that was always talking about how smart his son was. He always said that he could fix such and such with a "bobby pin".

"they" will, however, see a dramatic increase in ssh traffic to a specific destination ... but they have to be looking for this.
circumventing access controls is grounds for dismissal at many workplaces. not sure how schools deal with this.

"I had a coworker one time that was always talking about how smart his son was."
You forgot to hit the space bar, the words are "cow orker".
"He always said that he could fix such and such with a "bobby pin".
A bobby pin? He has a rather strange son.

First there must be a >dramatic< increase, common sense dictates keeping it down to a dull roar. There is a catch, the Greek description of "teenager" is sophos moros, (sophomore) young fool. Back in my phone phreaking days I made the mistake of giving an internal "loop line" number to a girl and when I tried to use it I was greeted by a constant busy signal. Not only did she hog it away from the rest of us but a tech noticed the abuse and pulled the plug. Moral; never give a kid a secret weapon, especially a girl. Now the kid is armed but is he armed with common sense? Well, that takes me back to my first post in this thread, if he can't outsmart a paper clip he deserves permanent detention in the Breakfast Club with Molly Ringworm.

you're making the presumption there's common sense to be had in this situation in the first place. :)
