If you haven't discovered this, here it is:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

The BIG ones
- Tweak UI
- Image Resizer
- Virtual Desktop Manager

Virtual Desktop Manager
After install, right click on Task Bar and click on 'Toolbars', then 'Desktop Manager'. Four virtual desktops at your disposal. Fast way to change desktops. One of my favorites.

1. Install Tweak UI
2. Run Tweak UI
3. Expand 'Common Dialog', Click on Places Bar.
4. Check 'Custom places bar' under 'Places Bar'
- Five Dialog boxes to select pre defined defaults, or enter path of folder you want as Places short cut.
5. Click 'Apply'

This particular thread is dealing with 32 bit XP OS, and may not apply to other incompatible variants.

Other than that, this is the third system I deal with using XP Pro w/sp2, and all three have been rock-solid, dependable performing OS's, and even much better than Win2K and Vista.

I use Image Resizer. When I get back from a work trip and I have over 800 pics and being able to resize them quickly is awesome. Easier than creating a batch job in PS.

TweakUI doesn't working with XP Pro SP2 either.

The install appears to go fine, but that's it. Nothing is installed except for a pre-fetch file

If you had previously installed Tweak UI, you have to uninstall it first, then install the new Tweak UI.

Tweak UI for XP is not located in Control Panel like it's predecessors, it is here:
1. Click on 'Start', then 'Programs'
2. Select 'Power Toys for Windows XP'
3. Click on 'Tweak UI'

It should be right there, as I have it on three XP Pro w/SP2 machines.

does XP Pro 64 on a 64 bit machine really work better?
vs XP Pro?

not that I can tell! XP64 sucks, HP hasn't written drivers for printers using XP64, even the color lasers are not supported, USB devices do not work, there are a lot of holes. I am dual boot, XP64 or 2K, I boot into Win2K.

Wouldn't surprise me that XP64 is a dog like Vista. W2K is ok, but XP Pro Service pack 2 is very good, very stable.
