I need to install Office 2K3, I currently have Office 2K...

I have searched my drives for the IAF files as well as the calendar and contacts PST files, but they are not to be found.

Does anyone know where these live so i can copy them over to the new office program??

Outlook usually uses either an .pst file or for offline Exchange server usage an .ost file.

look in c:\Documents and Settings\userid\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
That is the default location for .pst or .ost files in office 2003. Calendar data is either store in the pst or ost file.
With exchange server the files stay on the server except when you configure Outlook for offline usage then the file is an .ost file.

Best thing is to use "start->search->for files or folders" and search for the extension. It will show up if it is there.

Make sure to enable checking of hidden and system files and folders in the search dialog box, otherwise the files may be missed!

True I forget I set my system up so everything shows and
c:\Documents and Settings\userid\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
is hidden and might actually be considered a system folder. But that is where the new file should be I assume he didn't use a custom location, which is something I usually do.
Oh I don't believe you can use the .iaf file with the newer version of Outlook you migrated too. There was a new version of the settings file introduced in office 2003, .ops (I believe) Perhaps the settings wizard (optionally installed item) can use the old format .iaf. I never tried importing .iaf but the settings wizard saves settings for all office apps installed, including Visio and MSProject which I use.

no, I gave up and copied down the details of each email account and will rebuild manually. I then exported the calendar and the contacts to be imported later.

I am upgrading from Win2K to WinXPx86. SO FAR... I think that WinXP SUCKS.

Trust me, it's better than 2k.
You are just having problems because ALL upgrades suck.

Best of luck, I hate doing that and I've been an admin for 14 years.

WinXP Pro with service packs 1A/2 works extremely well, and compatible with most software, and is the most stable of Microsoft OS's. It is a notch up from Win2K. I selected the "Classic' Start menu, and the 'Classic' theme, and the transition is much easier. If you are going to get XP, get the Professional version.

Yeah I have had very few issues with XP. Most of the problems I've had were with third party software...

I'm surprised how people put up with Microsoft software and all its issues. Lets see, having to waste resources because you have to run programs whose sole purpose is to enumerate evil (otherwise known as a virus scanner), still having to defrag your hard drive, a simply horrible scheduler in the kernel (programs go to swap when minimized...wtf) and the list goes on.

Depends on how you make your living :D
Corporations love Windows *shrug* and you can tell them over and over again... They will change when they are ready to...

first, I have the name of this dog wrong, it is WindowsXP x64.

It would appear that it has some serious issues, and it sucks big time.

I have found that my HP 2600n color laser printer is not compatable with WinXP64.
Then I found that Motorola Phone Tools is not compatable with WinXP64.

Both work fine with Win2K and WinXP but not the 64b version.

oh well, I am saddled with this pig because my wife has gone back to school and her course material requires WinXP64 for some reason.

So, I will dual boot this bitch (meaning female dog) and when I need to print in laser color, and sync the cell phone, I will drop out of XP and go back to a working OS.

Before someone else says that I need to go Linux, perhaps someone will tell me what version of linux is compatable to a windows NT native network.

You'd need SAMBA for that, a monster pain in the a** in it's own right.
That comes native with any self respecting Linux distro.
