View Full Version : Re-tuned my vertical, would appreciate some reports
Added the 30m trap kit and 75m.
I would appreciate any reports.
Also, I can't seem to get 80/75m (RM-80S with a hustler 6btv) to go any higher than 3.3 MHz. Thoughts?

not familiar with that vertical.
I know the Titan DX we have here at the EOC was having a similar problem. It took some experimentation but we were finally able to solve it by attatching some more wire to one of the elements and adjusting the length of the counterpoise. It took us about an hour with an antenna analyzer, some aligator clips, wire, and wire cutters. Once we determined the proper length we attatched it with a stainless steel screw instead of the aligator clip.
Well, in this case it would mean that I have to cut metal...

It does sound that way, but if you have an analyzer, be sure you do some experimentation prior to cutting. It's a hell of a lot easier to trim than reattach. I know you know that, but the last thing you need is an arse'ole like me saying I told ya so. Even worse yet, the likes of KOW saying he told ya so.
Yeah but there has to be a way to do it without cutting.
I took out the lopper today and trimmed some tree branches which were close, but no effect. I also re-tuned the whole thing from 10m up. Same story.
80m is the problem child and I have to figure out how to tackle this problem.

Adjust the trap maybe?

Is there a loading coil? The Butternut verticals have one at the feed point. With a superior ground system, on these antennas, the coil must be "squeezed" so that the turns are closer together to obtain a good match.
Just a shot in the dark ...

There's a thought, excellent Luke!
It has a "resonator" for 75/80m, but it is sealed so nothing can be done with it.
