View Full Version : QRS CW
Okay guys, here's the deal - I want to practice my CW. During tonight's QSO with KE5FRF, I realized that I needed some more practice.
So who's up to help me pratice some CW? I want to enjoy one of the best modes in ham radio a bit more.
Who's up for some CW practice?

I certainly am! My QSO ratio is (according to my logging program) 69% CW. 29% SSB, 1% RTTY, 1% OSCAR (from the days of RS-12/13).
Let me see how my work schedule goes for the rest of the week. We've been working some serious overtime, and it will probably be the weekend before I can hook up with you. But I am certainly interested!
I'll dust off the Brass Racers, and get that microphone out of the way ...
Sounds like a plan, Luke!
Anyone up to pound some brass this weekend?

I'm going to look for a spot on 40 meters after I run in the house and get a coffee refill. Let the pounding of the brass begin! Will advise of frequency when I return.

Listening on or about 7.117 w/o the filters. Should hear anyone close to that freq.

Had nice QSO w/KB3OXG, brand new ham licensed in April on 7117.75. Slow speed ... abt 5 wpm, but his CW was great for a new guy. If you hear him around, give him a call!
No Islanders heard, am leaving the freq, if anyone wants to give it a go, leave a message here!

I'm willing to give it a go. Anyone up?
Hey luke! Thanks for the FB short QSO, man!
My confidence in my CW skills are getting a lot better, and hopefully the skills will grow to match. :D

You're doing fine, Ryan! If you're receptive (hell, I'm gonna offer anyway ...), concentrate on the spacing a little more, you sound a bit rushed. Everyone seems to want to rush a bit at first, but I had no trouble copying you. My CW is quite rusty ... I learned strictly on a straight key, and was a fanatic about my spacing, and didn't allow myself a set of paddles until I thought I had it right! I used to be able to rag chew at 30 wpm without even breathing hard, but I haven't been doing a lot of CW, and my sending has suffered.
When I worked Lou (see post earlier), he was at abt 5 wpm, so I slowed down to match his speed, and spacing is very difficult for me going that slow.
Hope you copied all my gibberish OK, promise to do better next time!
Anyway, you can't go wrong with CW, it's where all the good DX is, and you don't need the $25,000 station to work 'em!
Enjoyed the QSO!

The guy at FISTS in Dayton told me about the spacing too. I guess I should space it out more. I thought I was spacing too much!
Look forward to the next one...
You were good too, better than me, even!
I used to do CW regularly on 20m when I got licensed initially, with a straight key and one of the IARU 20m transceiver kits given to poor hams in poorer countries. I tried off and on, but never really was that active on HF anyway.
But this time I want to concentrate on honing my CW skillz.
Appreciate the practice, Luke, even though I was plenty QLF!
